My daughter is a trans woman so I can’t understand how some families can’t accept who their children are! You are born the person you are and that can’t be changed so you either accept it or lose that person from your life 🤷🏻‍♀️ I wouldn’t have my daughter any other way 🥰 I’m glad you liked this episode, Tara is amazing and such a perfect addition to the Scoobies

I have lots of favorite episodes of Buffy, and this is one of them. Top tier, for sure. It makes me so sad for you that you have members of your blood that make you feel so terrible. That's hard. You are right, family is not necessarily linked to whether or not the person is related to you by blood. This episode shows that really well. About your thoughts on the Wicca thing being a metaphor for the LGBTQ lifestyle. In the words of Xander, "You're not wrong." This is something a lot of the fandom has picked up on, and I'm pretty sure Joss Whedon himself has said it is. In the conversation between Tara and her father in her dorm room, almost every word both of them said could be applied to a discussion between an LGBTQ person and a disapproving family member. Especially one who disapproves for what they excuse as religious reasons, the kind of person who sees being gay as being unnatural or evil. IE, Tara's response: "It doesn't feel evil, sir." This whole episode was just so well done. Love this reaction, and I particularly love your reaction to the reveals about Tara not being a demon, and that she was essentially being gaslighted by her family to believe she had a demon inside of her.

It always makes me wonder what Tara’s life was like growing up. Her family, at least the men, knew that there was never any demon and used that as a means to control women for who knows how long. I think Tara’s stutter alludes to a definite abuse especially seeing it come back when her “family” arrives. This is most definitely the closest Wheaton could get at this point at having a conversation about LGBT I feel. Even Xander and Buffy’s convo could be seen as them referring to LGBT people as Joss has often used witches as a pseudonym. This is definitely one of my top episodes of the series. I totally agree that family isn’t blood. Awesome review.

Seeing Tara’s family, including a young Amy Adams as cousin Beth, was interesting. I noticed her stutter returned when they re-entered her life. I think of what you’ve seen so far on both Buffy and Angel, it seems like a lot of the Buffy-verse characters have parent/family issues. Not going to lie, I always get teary eyed during that last scene in the Magic Shop! To me, there are two types of family: the one you’re born into and the one you choose. And it’s been in my experience that there is deeper love, respect and understanding with the family you choose.

I think you missed the key statement that Spike made after he hit Tara. He said this was something the men in the family cooked up to keep the women in line. It wasn’t that the family believed a myth with no proof, it’s that they used it as a controlling mechanism.

This has always been one of my favourite episodes and your right blood doesn't have to mean family I know there r some people in my blood family I should have cut off years ago but I just dont have the heart to even my best friend who I consider my sister says that but I love the fact that tara has now finally realised she has a new family and willow and tarah at the end amazing

It's a difficult case sadly to decide to remove blood associates from your family. I won't get into some of the specifics who I had to cut, some are sensitive than others but it can be a difficult call. Tara has that warming family now, one that won't manipulate her like hers did </3

Yeah, I wish I could admit that I don't have unproblematic members but my pants would be on fire at that point haha. And I had a feeling that there were some relation because it sounded too close to what I was thinking. Dialogue and the idea that a less than competent family views being anything but straight is a sin (demonic in this case), it feels coated like coming out and being The Slayer. And thank you so much, this episode punched me in the heart <3

Hey, Liam. There's something up with the link to your reaction to the next episode of Buffy, Tough Love. The link to the stream is fine, but the link on this page, where you get the stream, is missing. When I click it from my email it keeps giving me a 505 "Looks like you got lost" page. When I go from the folder on here with all the Buffy links, that ep isn't there. It says the last Buffy one is this one. It wouldn't normally matter, except I'm watching Tough Love now, and I wanted to leave a comment. LOL Is there a way to fix it? Love this reaction, by the way.

My favorite ship name I've ever seen for Willow and Tara is RosenClay. A combo of their last name. :)
