I’ve been playing these for my fiancée during car rides, and this time, as soon as they mentioned the sauerkraut, she suddenly shouted “I KNOW THIS ONE!” Apparently the insult she felt from the solution has lasted through the decades since she read the book in her childhood. She remembered being completely bewildered by the notion that mustard couldn’t go on top of sauerkraut.

Seriously, even assuming Bugs was objectively incorrect in his condiment application, that does not imply the condiments are concealing contraband. Are we to understand that if Bugs hid the penny under 2 inches of sauerkraut only that EB would lack probable cause to search his hot dog?

Before I started listening to these with my kids, I explained to them what Encyclopedia Brown was and how some of them had bonkers solutions. My son asked for an example, and I was able to immediately come up with this one, as it had stuck in my craw since childhood. Glad you got around to it in this series!
