Conor here. I have a birdfeeder in my yard that throughout the winter, was a nice source of wildlife sightings. See the below cardinal and downy woodpecker!

But as of late it has been dominated by gangs of Grackles, which are fairly uninteresting and aggressive birds. The Nasty Foxes of the avian world, if you will. Today on a whim I googled how to get rid of them and was delighted by the SECOND suggestion on the list: evil* bird kites! No word on whether their grackle-abating properties are improved by sending notes up the kite, or whether one of the side-effects is increased walnut consumption as you monitor the kite.

None of the 15 suggestions involve mongooses, but perhaps that's just because the author knew that the increased cost of a Special Mongoose would be prohibitive for most amateur birders.

*I mean, I assume all bird kites are some degree of evil, right?

I was hoping you'd break midway through the post, suggest we retire to bed and take this up in the morning, and post the rest tomorrow.

I see those same birds regularly outside my window! I believe that woodpecker is a harrier?
