I wanted to share my 1st "flat" EQ for the Earfun Free Pro with my own ear canal resonance of 6300Hz (updated final settings):

These EQ profiles should basically give you a "neutral" kind of sound similar as it is perceived from speakers in front of you. It's an "ear" verified EQ, thus I could listen to it and fine tune it to my target manually. It may take some getting used to it at first as it will sound completely different than my previous tuning approaches, but at the same time it should be more correct overall. Due to some sample variation I noticed a bit of variation between different Free Pro units especially in the treble region. Keep in mind that the correct balance of the overall spectrum is important to be kept intact but if you feel your unit to appear too bright, you may adjust the last 2 values, I had to set the 11500Hz band to 0 on one of my other units and the last band to -4, but keep in mind that small changes can have a big effect on the overall balance. I really tried my best to find a target which represents "neutral" as good as possible with the given limitations. Bass was adjusted to taste, and also depends a lot what kind of fit you get with your tips or how deep you usually wear them. I have an average rather shallow insertion thus perceive bass probably not as loud, i tried to make it sound similar to my equalized HD600 and definitely less bassy than the Q30. You can of course just add some dB or take away half a dB, tried listening with stronger reduction but found the current setting to work best for me. If you find it too basslight or prefer more bass, the bass filter shouldn't do much harm to the sound unlike the other filters which basically have way more impact on the overall sound. The area between 3-10khz is the most important that the balance between all frequencies is exact, which can only be guarranteed for the given ear canal resonance though, the more your resonance differs, the more the EQ will sound off to you. Just like my previous one that I created which sounded perfect to me with clogged ears but off with clean ears although both were sounding the same to me and I perceived both as “correct”. That was the reason why I simply tried finding ways to offer the same sound experience I am getting in a comparable way to other’s ears. And let’s hope my approach will work out. The EQs were created for a listening volume around half on an iOS device depending on the loudness of the recording. They were not created for both high level or low level listening. For those cases you may need to adjust them to your listening habit.

As soon as manage I will post all other EQs for other resonance frequenices here in this single posting to have them all collected, this first one is just for the start as I in the beginning I needed to create one for myself to really verify if it sounds plausible. If you happen to get your ear canal resonance at a similar frequency around 6300Hz, this EQ should sound pretty realistic to you. I am cruious about your results. I have planned the following values which will be created manually towards my target, unfortunately I cannot test them on my own if they will still sound correct, and will need your feedback. I can only base these tunings on measurements, but from my experience so far the results seem indeed quite precise.

Coming up:

5800Hz

6000Hz

6500Hz

6750Hz

7000Hz

7250Hz

I welcome any feedback as meanwhile I know too well how even my own ear can perceive sound completely differently from one moment to the other, that's why I'll need your input for further optimisations.

Have fun, and enjoy the "flat" sound ;-)
