Hi guys just wanted to let you know what will be coming up soon and what plans I have for future because I noticed that many are jumping off again after some days.

I am not quite sure what expectations all of you have and how I should continue to satisfy most needs.

I didn’t want to do the same shit I did on YouTube so far but rather wanted to get more into detail with my videos as if I would talk to like-minded people who have the same interest for good sound.

Just to let you know how the current status is: currently I am on a pause with headphone videos as I am not fully satisfied with the results I produced so far. A big issue of my current binaural recording setup is that my microphones block my ear canal at least partially, this means the frequency response I am hearing during the recording is completely different than what I would usually hear. This goes for both headphones and speakers. I have to extrapolate the impression I am hearing during the recording to something that I would hear normally. This is not always possible and sometimes I judge the heard sound wrong in my videos because I couldn’t hear it correctly when I recorded it. During recordings of headphones this issue is even more pronounced, I just cannot judge the sound of a given headphone reliably if I haven’t already heard it before. The result is that I cannot do any first impressions or live unboxings of headphones because I just don’t hear them right when wearing my microphones. (The unboxings of the LCD-1 and Elex I did back then were of course fake as I have already heard the headphones before recording just pretending that I am hearing them for the first time).

But my idea for future videos (apart from my idea of binaural live streams where we could listen live to any stuff you would like to hear) was also to attend different types of events or visit headphone/audio stores where I could listen to headphones and record everything at the same time in order to share this with all of you. But this implies that my results are valid and consistent for any type of headphone: I must be sure that 2 different headphones recorded on 2 different days still represent the original sound I heard. Otherwise all such videos wouldn’t make sense. One important factor is also to get a consistent fit. When I wear my microphones I must be sure that they are positioned equally for left and right ear and to get exactly the same fit the other day. Because any small deviation of positioning will change the response especially in the critical treble region.

All this may appear trivial but unfortunately it isn’t and I have sleepless nights because of this as I want to capture the sound like I heard in reality.

To cut the long story short: I am expecting a completely new pair of binaural microphones from a friend of mine. They are open design and I have already tested his first prototype with very promising results. I hardly notice at all that I am wearing a microphone. The change in perceived sound is minimal and even close to negligible. By wearing these microphones I can just judge the heard sound like I would in real life. I am planning to use these microphones for both headphone and my usual ambient recordings because right now I use different types of microphones for any given subject). I never managed to use my headphone microphones to also record speakers although the results should be even more realistic regarding imaging and 3d-ness because those block me out nearly completely and are very uncomfortable to wear.

Of course I will need lots of time to tweak my results for the new microphones until I can finally decide which method to concentrate on more and which one to settle for in future.

Now as I finally have people somehow supporting me and what I am doing I can concentrate more on this topic and invest more time into it, as my goal would be to capture any sound source in the most realistic way possible and with a single recording setup: just imagine me listening to a headphone and then switch over to a speaker standing in front of me and both still resemble their real sound and how I heard them in reality.

Right now I am quite confident with my recording setup for speakers thus I believe my recent sound samples are quite valid. Therefore it’s easier for me to create speaker videos now as I can be sure that the sound samples I offer you are not some shit.

I am only fighting with my first person camera now, as I want to give my videos a particular look, which maybe doesn’t matter to many but I want to give my videos a kind of smoothness as I think that the image you see when listening to a binaural recording improves the perception of the heard environment.

So my next videos will be definitely speaker related, I have already recorded a night listening session of the Vifa Reykjavik against the Beosound A1, unfortunately copyright of a Prince track would block the video worldwide again therefore I have to re-edit it again.

I also planned to make a video comparing my old VIFA Helsinki which is still from 2015 with a more recent unit from 2019 as there are significant changes in sound that I would like to treat in a critical manner.

I know many are interested in the Minirigs 3 vs Minirig Mini and Mini 2. This is also very high on my list I just need to sit down one night and find the right tracks which would reveal the differences in the most obvious way.

I also thought about a direct comparison of the Denon Envaya against Anker Soundcore Motion+ as I still couldn’t really tell which one is better overall.

I am expecting a pair of new updated Tribit Xsound Go which are stuck at the customs right now. These could be promising little speakers for little money as the old one was already quite decent. I hope I can get them soon so that we can listen to them together.

In the meantime the new microphones should have arrived which will occupy me as well.

Therefore I just beg you to be a bit patient with me. I cannot do everything at once and want to finish that stuff first that I can manage with less time and effort.

Of course I also welcome ideas from you if you are interested in a particular topic. I don’t want to waste your time with stuff that interests just me...

To conclude all this, I just wanted to say that I am so happy to have you here and that I would like to thank all of you again because I finally have some fun at doing all this again and always look forward to recording something new for you.

Yours, O.

So Great to Hear all the Positive news! Speaking for myself, I am very Happy to see You chart Your OWN direction for this endeavor! I didn’t know much about developments in personal audio or anything really about the finer details... You exposed some of us to things like Minirigs, and the ES100 for the first time! Thank You! My point is, when patrons drive the bus, things get weird, and wasn’t that the problem with YouTube?! Unless one panders to the mob one is lost there... is the situation any different with a “smaller mob”? haha! Anyway I’m sure informed input is helpful but please understand many of us trust Your exploration of this rather intimate experience of life. Things that come out of nowhere for some viewers like the bicycle audio and so many of the outdoor presentations where You point out different acoustic influences like trees and walls etc., are SINGULAR- Very Special!! (They have the power to transform someone’s whole experience!) Additionally, it has only been a short time since You started Patreon... like a bus, some will get on, some will get off... especially at the beginning... eventually things will sort out. (I noticed some other presenters on Patreon maintain “some presence” on YouTube because it is a stream of constantly changing audience that is helpful in recruiting new viewer/patrons. Perhaps when/if You feel comfortable, You could post some of the more enticing content to YouTube, once in awhile clearly stating “If You want more find me on Patreon...” -just an observation...) Anyway AWESOME Job!!! Please continue to find YOUR unique path- whatever brings You at least some Joy because one’s mental/emotional gifts/health are also being presented, and ALL people find those with infectious enthusiasm pleasurable to watch and support! Thanks So Much, All the Best!!!

Fantastic message. I'm into everything oluv does even if I'm not particularly interested in buying a said reviewed speaker or headphone I'm interested in his in depth reviews and comparisons. I've told my friends to buy a particular speaker because of Oluv as he keep it real.

All I can say is, keep going. Yes, folks will come and go, but those of us who appreciate your amazing work as a reviewer will stick around as long as we can. The attention to detail in your work is astounding. So few reviewers have that kind of patience and probably fewer have the experience to do what you are capable of. You’re doing great! Hang in there. Haters are going to hate. People wanting lots of entertainment may feel unsatisfied. Pretty sure they’re not the ones you are catering to anyway. And I’m excited to hear what you think of the new open microphones! And, maybe it’s just me, but don’t worry about the camera. It’s never had an impact on my experience watching your reviews. Shaky or not, I enjoy hearing what you present. A final thought for you. Since you have such a great system for your speaker videos, maybe you could do more sound bar reviews? I for one would enjoy them and appreciate your opinion. That might broaden your audience as well.

When i bought the vifa oslo i contacted the seller because of an issue i had. He actualy came to my house with 2 different units to compare. I found out that those 2 actualy sounded worse compared to my unit. It was quite obvious that mine sounded clearer. I was quite happy with it until the battery died 1,5 years later. I contacted the seller again and he would send it to the factory for repair. In the end i got a replacement unit in a new color so that must also be a newer model i assume. This new one sounds even better! It measures flatter and has no peak in the treble like the old one. Maybe it was a bit of a lottery with the vifas.

For me Sasha Bambas nailed in on the spot, I 100% agree. I think the really interested Patrons know very well why they are right here and they are patient because we highly appreciate your efforts for creating the best possible quality. This Patreon-thing is new, so you have to be patient by yourself and have to let it develop and it will separate chaff from wheat by itself after a while. I really like it very much how you cover up all possible situations for listening to music (indoor/outdoor/silent/loud and so on) and there’s still (and I‘m sure there won’t be anyhow) nothing comparable in quality to get informed about sound quality of speakers. Your biggest advantage is your own passion for music, listening and sound quality. So keep the things going your way and I will be totally happy with it.

Ich war schon immer der Meinung, dass das was du hier tust, oder was bisher auf Youtube von dir kam, etwas ganz besonderes in diesem Reviewer Kosmos ist !

It's worth skipping a few cups of coffee a month to be able to support your channel.

Danke dir Olav

I was not 100% satisfied with the results I got from my older soundbar reviews, besides it is not that easy to get them. Hardly any company will send samples, so I could only try borrowing one somehwere or buying it by myself and then returning it. But right now I am not rich enough to afford buying a new 1500$ soundbar just for a test. I would willingly test some if I could.

For me the transparency you offer in you reviews is worth paying for. Not having to pander to a wider transient audience in order to get paid, lets you offer a very different service than a traditional You tuber.

All I have to say is, I'm not a Patreon supporter for Oluv right now solely for FUTURE content -- I'm also laying money down for the YEARS of content I've been enjoying from him for FREE beforehand. I plan on CONTINUING to support him for as long as I can, too. I don't mind him taking extra time to perfect his methods as he sees fit, either. I trust the method and the man! Keep it up, Oluv!

To me, look: there is dxomark and displaymate out there. Trustworthy (AFAIK) places where to find real measurements of devices we customers interact with to enjoy media. I think you can get there. There was one reviewer even telling you to joinin forces -in that video you posted last year about criticism-. There has to be an unbiased way to let customers know and teach why it is important to have neutral, flat, balanced device -because there's a musician and a sound designer behind-. And to have coloured ones to your liking to, why not, but not as a main unit. I do work as a colorist and I know what I mean with that. On another side of things, I love your aproach and sense of humor, and you have me in the boat even if you decide not to expand your database or improve the IEM measurements, which is something I would love to see.

Would love to see the comparison between Minirig 3 vs Minirig mini 2... Also any chance you will be getting your hands on the new Audio Pro T3+?

Yeah just keep being honest, fun, and showing your beautiful surroundings.

I'm enjoying the late night listening sessions with your supercool dog Oluv! can't wait for more of your mini/micro speaker comparisons. I recently compared my Beoplay A1 1st gen (which I appreciate is in a higher weight class) vs Vifa City vs Minirig Mini 2: Of the 3 my unscientific impression is that the A1 has the fullest, deepest, most satisfying sound at low levels, but can be overblown and weird on tracks at higher volumes, the Vifa City wins on clarity, but sorely lacking bass which makes it sound a bit toy-like, the Minirig Mini 2 perhaps the best all-rounder with bass closer to the A1, but more closed in the upper frequencies than the Vifa, although better at high volumes than the A1. I gave up on the minirig stereo pairing as it was too glitchy, but sounded great when it worked. I'm sending the Vifa back and keeping one of the minirigs.

Take your time Oluv, take your time. Don't stop exploring and trying new things. I am here for the excellent quality of your content not the quantity.

I had the same experience with the Vifa City - bass strangely absent. So much so, that I wrote Vifa and told them that I thought my unit was perhaps somehow faulty. They asked me to update the firmware, but as I don't have access to a windows computer (which they told me would be neccesary for updating the City), they simply told me to send it to them and they would update it and check for possible defects. So, to cut it short, they updated it to the latest firmware and found no fault with the speaker. That was the way it was supposed to sound.
