Behind the scenes: Engine work day 19 (Patreon)
Content
I figured I'd do a little insight engine work post on a interesting little bit of how day 19's choice works. This should be mainly spoiler free, but if you aren't aware of what's being built up towards day 19 with routes. You might wish to avoid this? <.<
So day 19 if it's not made aware and keeping it spoiler free as possible, is the day that Brandon gets to finally make his choice for a girlfriend and begin routes being unraveled into the game!
All very exciting stuff, but keeping it hush hush on the story elements. Engine wise the choices given to players works pretty interesting, so let's break it down.
Let's say I've been playing a bit carelessly through my playthrough and don't think I'll have enough affection to unlock any choices maybe?
So first off, in order to even have the choice to choose Nova, Erika, Miki, etc. You have to reach a certain level of affection for the choice to be given, but what happens if you don't have enough affection to unlock any choices?
Well the engine will handle it like this.
Game checks if you first have any of the max affections for the girls.
>Yes
>No
>if yes (game gives you which choices you unlocked and it proceeds.)
>if no (the game will drop the requirements by -1 point and check through the girls again.)
It will check through until the game can offer at least 1 choice if not more, by more. I mean during the checking with dropping points required, let's say Miki and Nova are tied during that single check.
Congrats! You will have those two as choices.
If say Miki's requirement was hit, but Nova's requirement only needed -1 more point to hit. The game will notice that you have at least one choice given already and stops any further affection point dropping or checking for more unlocks.
Needless to say, it's set up like this for the one and major reason... No one will like carelessly playing through the game the first time and get punished by this point in the game because they didn't have any girl's who met the unlock conditions. It doesn't feel right to say "Sorry, but you need to play through again and this time be better at focusing on one girl or two."
Now the real challenge from this to make up for it for those who like a good challenge is trying to see just how many choices you can get and which combinations are given based on your skills in playing through it.
Will you be able to keep Miki above her requirement, while keeping Erika up there? Can you manage to unlock Heather and Juliet together? Can you push to unlock three girls?!
You get the point <.< anyways, sorry if this isn't a interesting post to many. It's more just to explain how the engine side of this choice will work, so I do hope some find it interesting at least. ^^
