Downloads and scaling (Patreon)
Content
UPDATE:
Not too surprising these results, but thanks a lot to everyone that responded.
As those of you on the $10 tier have noticed, I only made RX4 and R6f available through AWS to get a "worst case scenario" hold of how much this would run me. It kinda blew up overnight, but not to unhandlable levels. For the time being I should be able to cover it as is without moving it to a higher tier, so keeping it at the $10 tier for the time being unless the situation changes.
I'll shortly make those two packs available through my usual UK host as that is WAY cheaper for me, and does about as well speedwise for EU citizens, so if the normal download option works for you, I ask that you use that to make it easier to offer AWS for those it doesn't work for.
In short:
If you're not in a rush or the speed on the UK server is fast for you, please use that instead of the AWS option if you're a $10 supporter or above, but it's there to offer quick download for those that need it.

It seems scaling VPS services for patreon only downloads is really hard, who would've known? :-P
The current patreon only download has some problems, namely that users outside the EU seem to be getting somewhat lower speeds than the more local users, and there's really nothing I can do about that besides renting VPSes all over the world.
Or, I can use a cloud storage provider such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services.
both of these options are potentially REALLY DARNED EXPENSIVE.
Here's my plan of attack though:
For starters, I'll try to setup both pack downloads and sideloader modpack update point on AWS, and make it available to $10 patreons as per usual, and possibly setup one of my VPSes for public use... and maybe a seedbox to help with torrent seeding.
Now, this all carries a price tag, so I may need to move AWS to the $25 tier or stop it outright if it looks to be going out of control... is that worth it for you all? Of course I hope it doesn't go to that, but yeeeeah...
