Hello hello everyone,

and welcome back to Targa Florio!

welcome back indeed. It has been a while. I hope you all are in good health!

I wanted to ask you how excited you are about the new season of F1, but well, it seems the season has already ended? lol. But Ollie gave us a little bit of excitement in Jeddah, didn't he? We can hope there will be more excitement in the season! I really want to see some good racing!

And in sim racing world, we got Le Mans Ultimate, and very soon the Nordschleife for ACC will be coming out on April 1st! there's going to be a riot if it turns out to be an April fool though hahaha.

Can't wait to try it out.

Ok now let's go back to Sicily.

The new terrain model based on Lidar data is done, and I've been doing some tests to figure out how to make the most out of it.

And since we do still have some time before the new scan data is ready, what's the point of testing if we don't invite you to join the fun?

We have two test track for you to download and try:

Targa Florio Special Stage v.0.1.3

Autodromo Delle Madonie v.0.1.2

The first one, the special stage, is our main test track. The focus is the terrain model and textures. The road itself is only 5 meter wide, but it is based on lidar data, so personally, I feel that it is actually very fun to drive! Well, you'll see why I call it Special Stage very soon :P

You will see the road and grass popping out, please bear with it as this is still the highest LOD only, and only practice mode is available.  And currently no wall around the track! you'll fall to oblivion if you go out beyond the grass. I'll add safety wall after this haha

I'm planning to update this test track quite frequently as we progressed. Already working on the next version but it still need some tidying.

The second one is... well, it's a fail test track to be fair. this one was actually built before the special stage. but I want to let you know that I will not be doing anything more to this track, at least in the near future.

Back in the 70s there was a real plan proposal to build a racing track near Floriopolis called the Delle Madonie. 25km long, 3 layout variations planned.

I thought this would be a great chance to test out the new terrain model. But unfortunately it didn't come out as good as I hoped. The layout just doesn't fit the landscape, and it becomes a literal roller coaster. We have to cut through an entire hill or cross a valley, with some extreme elevation changes XD

Thankfully, it only took like 3 full days to make. So we didn't waste a lot of time on it. But since it'll be a shame to just delete it, I tidy it up a bit and wrap it up. I am a bit curious to how you guys think about this track lol.

Well I guess that's that for today. I hope you have a great week ahead.

Stay safe, stay healthy,

and thank you!

Hey Abluzz, found a new, great documentation about Targa. Maybe helpful for your inspiration. And definitely worth seeing for anyone else who is interested. Have fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_13gKt-zEM

I love it. Your road mesh makes the road feel alive and that's the most important thing for me. I still love 8year old circuits that haven't seen an update in years and look seriously dated because of the driving experience they provide. Graphics and trackside details are a far second to how it feels to drive when I'm deciding if a circuit is worth keeping and this one is absolutely worth keeping and in my opinion worth continuing your effort just as you have with the greatest track and all of sim racing and only because of the things that you have done to it in targa florio. I have two older versions of Targa one i think is a direct report of the rf2 version and I still love that layout which is slightly different because the drive is exactly what I'm after but what you've done to Targa in my opinion makes it the best mod available for any sim. And who should be surprised with you focusing almost solely on it for as long as you have and your work shows because it is truly a work of art. Keep up the amazing work my friend
