 Hey Science Team!

Helltaker here with the 5.4.0 ANBW ALPHA release!

We've got a lot to talk about but I'll try to keep it short and precise, there will be SOME technical mumbo-jumbo.

The major new element in 5.4.0 is the very much updated Sandbox. Not only another 3 characters (with some quirks here and there), but also the entirety of the interaction with the sandbox has received a MASSIVE UPGRADE. I can't overstate how impactful "Taco´s" work on this was, he´s just recently joined our team and has been flinging gold left and right since then. More about the Sandbox in a dedicated Section below!

We further have been working on stabilizing our core pipeline elements. Its a slog and we know it, but it has to happen now or we wont be able to scale reliable without breaking our neck in the coming months when moving things into faster moves.

Other than that we worked on

  • Optimizing the game for reduced RAM usage

  • Optimized loading distances

  • Disabled the ability to turn on "bad" settings (anything but TSR is just not what you want in UE5 if you care about frames)

  • Added a shit ton of moan audio to all of the currently available ... ehm ... how many ... 11! fuckable characters

  • Did yet ANOTHER lighting update to improve framerate AND visuals

  • Fixed a ton of missing colliders in the entirety of VLT

And much more ...

I would probably writing your ears off but the gods of chance gave me a 20 roll on my b-day yesterday and I got nasty sick, so without further ado: Have fun and enjoy the latest release!



SANDBOX UPDATES
Animation:

Dynamic Input Control: No more sliders! Now you can interact directly with the animation. Press the new hexagon button to go more or less deeper or to rotate the hip using only the mouse.

Record the Movement: Although using the mouse requires a single hand, you may want to use a total of 0 hands. By holding down the R key you record the input, once you release the key it will reproduce the motion you made indefinitely.

WIP Pleasure and Lust Mechanic: Find out what rhythm each participant prefers to increase their pleasure and bring them to orgasm. Each time a participant reaches orgasm, the preferred rhythm changes.

Procedural Animation: Many improvements, there's still a long way to go, but you should notice how it feels more weighty and natural. Also, participants shake during the orgasm.

Camera Movement: The closer you are to the action, the closer the camera will follow the movement of the hip.


Sound:

All sound FXs in Sandbox mode have been reworked. You can enjoy the sounds of friction, plaps, insertions and removals, and some slime. They can also be adjusted in the Settings menu.

UI:

The UI has also been reworked, it's very far from the final design, but it's much smaller.

Controls:

- You can now roll the camera by pressing Shift + right mouse button.

- Participants are now placed on any suitable surface by clicking the left mouse button or F key.

- While you're placing the participants, you can use the z and c keys to rotate them.

- While using Dynamic Input Control, move the mouse up and down to control the depth, and left and right to control the hip rotation.

Bug fixing:

Fixed a bug that caused the sandbox to not re-enable after exiting.


Known Issues

  • disabled the keybinding settings for now as we want to do a full redo of how keybindings work.

  • saving and loading multiple times after each other can cause an issue with the last save file.

  • some places can have the quest window pop up and need to be closed.

  • There seem to be some low fps areas that we will look into.

  • Entering and exiting Sandbox will turn off music override (makes the music player reappear)

  • There seem to be a multi monitor issue where it can get resolutions from another screen that the game window monitor doesn't support.

  • If you have DSR on your monitor then it can give you false monitor resolutions that will make the game window scaled wrong.

  • Visual Error in nearly all Glass Shaders

Content

  • New Sandbox is now open to play. Special hint when doing motions hold R and release mouse button to auto loop do the motion you previously did.

  • Awesome new lighting and material update. It looks almost as glorious like our lord Helltaker.

Nice work! Are there any tips for settings we can lower? My RAM usage shoots up near 100%, and I haven't managed to get a smooth framerate even lowering settings.

When I press E to interact in sand box nothing happens

Use TAB. E to interact isnt supposed to do anything in the sandbox other than open doors atm ;3

Huge fan of this update! The sandbox mode is way better in pretty much every way. Something that would be cool to see would be a hotkey added for scene selector and "press to bang". I think the ability to save your recorded movements would be a great addition too, that way you can rotate back and forth between movements as desired. Haven't tested story mode yet, but will be when I get some extra freetime.

If you guys are having issues with the Sandbox interaction while in the Sandbox mode, press TAB and look on the Bottom Left for a "Scene Interaction" button. E does not work for interacting with characters, though I hope it's a feature in the future because it doesn't feel particularly natural to the user. Feedback: In terms of feedback for scenes, while there are a lot of positions, having non-descriptive names for every position doesn't really relay much information to the user too too well in my opinion, or at least it didn't for me - I would much rather have something descriptive like Bent-over Doggy. Kinda like in the same way that Wild Life presents it, I guess. Not to draw parallels by any means. I think there also needs to be variations of, well, holes in scenes. Right now there are no blowjob or anal scenes, which would be a nice variety, but I assume that will come in time. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Idk if this is just a UE5 thing, but I'm getting abysmal frames on the prologue. I dumpstered every setting I could think of and that was only enough to get 3-5 FPS. Interestingly it seems to be a CPU and RAM bottleneck, at least when I looked at task manager. Do y'all have any more plans for major optimization fixes?
