What is the Film Archive (Patreon)

Hey everyone, let me introduce myself. I'm Peter NC-17, a film archivist and music recording artist signed with Goldie's Metalheadz Recordings. I'm also a film programmer/volunteer at Kingsway Cinema and have collaborated with labels such as VS, Rue Morgue, The Royal, and TIFF. Since the late 1990s, I've been collecting a wide variety of 35mm films.

Currently, I'm part of a collective with three close friends, and together we have amassed over 300 35mm films in our library.

Each month, we are accepting donations to fund the scanning of one film from our vaults. This involves creating a 16mm/35mm/70mm digital scan in either 2K or 4K resolution, ensuring these films are preserved for future generations.

Our main goal on Patreon is to fund a 35mm digital scan every month or every other month. These scans will be exclusive to our Patrons initially, with public availability beginning 60 days later. Preserving these films is crucial as film is a deteriorating medium, and this method provides the best means to archive them authentically.

Patreon was chosen because it allows us to consistently aim for high-quality 35mm scans each month. This approach helps maintain a steady workflow for our projects, unlike the challenges of monthly fundraisers for each film.

I apologize for any confusion or difficulty in communication last month. After some reflection, I believe this path forward is the most effective. Please note that we will only distribute scans that I personally oversee.

We will host emulation films on our new Discord server moving forward. This change ensures all emulation-related content is centralized there.
