With the plot out of the way, it's time to dig into the stories that Gundam F91 set out to tell. So this week we're focused on characters and politics.

Another good one! Loved hearing your deep thoughts on these thinly-sketched characters. Naturally, it's not mentioned at all in the movie as filmed, but Dorel's situation is fairly complex. He's only Cecily's half-brother - Iron Mask's son, but not Nadia's.

Figuring out exactly what happened there is tricky since we don't know much about the timing of past events, or even whether Dorel is supposed to be older or younger than Cecily. In the final script draft there's a reference to him as "a lover's child" so I guess this suggests Iron Mask had a girl on the side...

Solid stuff! I love F91 but that's because I enjoy approaching the story as a stew bone rather than a steak: it's something I let simmer and slowly flavor the whole concoction as I think through the weird things all the characters do and say. If you try to bite down into it like any other narrative, you'll break your teeth, but I've found it really rewarding as I've just taken it as it is.
