Sturdee might not have been a better commander than Beatty, but it would have taken a horriffic dark miracle for him to have been _worse_

If your battle cruiser is only going to engage destroyers and cruisers then why would you need 16" guns. If you took that position seriously they should have dropped down to 12" guns and added more armor.

Thanks for another good video. I work M-F so my weekend routine almost always consists of listening to your videos while I work around the house. My home town of Vestal NY celebrates it’s 200 th anniversary this year and if a “USS Vestal” video were to ever be made or brought up on another video I will gladly send it to our local newspaper and social media links if the town and anywhere else I can. Thanks and keep up the great work. 👍👍 https://www.facebook.com/Vestal200?mibextid=LQQJ4d

It always struck me as quite the power move that the US Navy named new ships after sunk ships during WWII ("Our industrial base is so good, we'll just print another!") When did the convention of naming ships after lost ships start, did it end, and did other navies have a similar practices?

I think any name would be better than naming US carriers after politicians, even if they were Presidents or Senators. They were human and sooner or later their feet of clay will come to light. Right now for aircraft carriers, there's no Enterprise, Yorktown, Enterprise etc. A new aircraft carrier Enterprise is under construction. The next two are JFK and Doris Miller. JFK is a repeat and who can argue with Dorrie Mille, either on his own or his emblematic for everyone who steps up. Maybe we'll see Intrepid and Yorktown return.

I never thought about it like that. Interesting perspective. Totally agree
