Hello Drach, great video, as always! A question for drydock: How viable would be a concept of heavy amphibious assault ship with shallow draft and armour to withstand field artillery, a ship that could beach itself in the middle of landing zone and shoot at anything that shoots back? Considering the US casualties on the first day of Iwo Jima landings, would such ship be worth the effort?

I was under the impression that at Iwo Jima the US casualties where largely not incurred on the beach since the Japanese operational plans being to not contest the beach and instead cause casualties as the Americans moved inland?
