Just to let you know, Pitou didn't even know who kite was. That's why she told Gon at the last minute that he was dead. So she didn't do it on purpose. Also, Kite was the one who gave Pitou the idea of having a healing ability because she originally wanted to revive him after their fight.

I thought kite was most likely not coming back but the fact that they had Gon believe he was alive whilst the audience knows he's not is a briliant writing technique. We know but we can't communicate that to Gon and so we gotta watch him go down this dark road without being able to do anything with that knowledge.
