Hello patrons! Matt Colville here. We're going to record the February Q&A soon and this is the place to ask questions! We used to do this on twitter, but I think this is a good way of using Patreon.

The questions should be for me, Matt, and they can be about any subject. There's no real rhyme or reason to which questions get answered. Not every question begets an answer, but I'm going to try and answer more questions this time, since y'all are patrons and not just random twitter people. :D

Video has been recorded.  Thanks for the Questions!

Hey, Matt. What *is* the Saint of Worms / vampire saint? Great character in a great scene.

Matt, you have long been a proponent of 'if you like it, stick it in your game' and never shy away from borrowing a good idea or trope. That being said.. How do you feel about potentially spawning hundreds of 'Chain of Acheron' style games? Are you worried about people trying to recreate your magic and struggling?- the Lego DM

Hey Matt! What's your reaction to the Critical Role Kickstarter? (I know your feelings, this is just an opportunity for you to rave on camera) When's the duel for regency of Kickstarter between you and Mercer?

When creating Nails in conjunction with Tom (not Tom), was the double entendre of referencing nails in a living god character ever brought up?

*Does* Ajax know?

Now that you are 3 years into the Running the Game series, do you think it's possible to boil down all of the most important bits of advice into a single video?

What could we, the People of Capital, do to increase our Factions' (House Navarr (Church), House Vorona (Navy), The Fulcrum (Docks), House Alvaro (Imperial University), Broadsheet Guild, House Valetta, & The Rasp) coolness that we might be able to engage in a larger scale metagame that impacts events on "The Chain" organized on Discord or similar platform? -Drak Th'n Bolak

What sort of campaign would you like to run (that perhaps you haven't got to yet), utilizing a system other than D&D? Also DWUABS? Congrats on the Ascension. <3

In terms of "take what you love and steal it for your game," is there any plot or piece of fiction you're dying to use but haven't figured out how to?

I know you have said that you enjoyed all of the editions of D&D, and I was wondering what are your favorite mechanics/features of each edition?

Anonymous

Hi Matt, what do you think about WotC combining MtG with DnD? I have seen the Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica and wanted to know what is your opinion on them pushing those two things together. Also all my love to you and entire team, you are doing an amazing job. xx

When are you going on vacation? You deserve a break!

Hiya Matt, I wanted to ask: what is the relationship between Ajax and Mortem? From what's been revealed so far it would appear that Ajax reaps the most benefit from their situation. It makes me curious as to what Ajax has that Mortem wants...

Matt, if you were a dog, what breed of dog would you be?

Anonymous

Do you have any images of painted minis from the Kickstarter? I saw the one Jim did and that was awesome.

The Chain campaign has some influences from The Black Company series of novels. Are there features of any non-scifi/fantasy fiction that you particularly would like to inject into a campaign (or have in the past/present)?

What is your biggest takeaway so far from streaming your D&D game?

Anonymous

What do you have planned for these Maker Videos we're hearing about?

Anonymous

Will you be bringing guest players in to come join the Chain? If I offer up my firstborn can I apply?

Anonymous

Do you think there will be a large number of character deaths in this campaign? If yes how do you think that will affect the way the players feel about their characters and/or their retainers? What's been done so far has been handled well and the players seem to enjoy it I'm just curious how you feel about it.

Evil Uncle Matt, any 609% backed Kickstarter you want to talk about while we're here?

With so many new/young people finding their way into table top role playing (many without the benefit of decades of accumulated lore and preconceptions): what's the coolest or most innovative thing you've seen or heard about someone integrating into their game because they weren't constrained by a genre's worth of expectations?

Anonymous

I loved the "History of D&D: One Fighter At A Time" series. It's a neat retrospective/time capsule for the evolution of D&D. Is there any hope of returning to this series? Was it discontinued due to lack of interest? Too much time to prep an episode?

Juxtaterrestrial

What is the most obscure thing you've looked up to add detail to a campaign?

Matt, with the chain leaving Alloy before it was attacked and the problems they have had on the red dawn will their reputation for trouble make it harder for party to recruit/ gain retainers?

Anonymous

Now that NetHack has been beaten and Taarna has Ascended, what will be your next game you'll play? I hope it's Baldur's Gate!

Where the gears mesh between the narrative of the party, world events, and a distinct encounter, how do you view that interface when you're preparing a session? Do you think of a cool encounter, then think of what narrative elements you need to make that work? Or, do you start from your world building, which leads to what dramatic event could happen next, which then informs what encounter you'll present? Or something else...?

Where did you get your start in D&D/ story telling? I've thoroughly enjoyed your books and I'm super excited for where your Champaign will lead The Chain.

Can you please seriously consider doing a Campaign setting book for Orden? Please do a poll of your fans and see how many of us would love to support you via that product. It's what a lot us, I believe, want. If the poll doesn't prove this I wp7ld be shocked but never mention it again. Promise.

What do you have planned in terms of content for Kingdoms and Warfare?

Anonymous

What has been your favorite place your players have visited in any campaign.

Who is your favorite historical figure? Have you ever based an NPC on them?

Anonymous

What surprised you the most in the last year (not counting kickstarter $$, that's cheating)?

Anonymous

Oh wow this is cool! Maybe next time!

Hi Matt! You are well versed in many other RPG systems. Would you consider streaming whilst playing something other than 5th ed?

Charles Sowders III

Matt I have an idea for a RPG companion product. I'm considering a Kickstarter campaign. What advice do you have for a Kickstarter first timer? Problems to avoid or lessons learned?

GGSigmar

Would you rather fight Anna-sized Relg or Relg-sized Anna?

Anonymous

Both, if I recall correctly. Too much effort and editing for too little response.

Anonymous

How do you design good side quests? I've got great ideas for main adventures but don't want my players to feel like they're on rails. How do you make it short but interesting without the meta feeling of it being tacked on just because.

Anonymous

What is a movie and/or book that in you opinion does the best job of showing realpolitik in action? In a related follow up could you please do more politics videos?

Anonymous

Do you usually talk to the players after the game to see what they liked from the session? Assess their reaction as you run the game? Or something else?

Patrick Mbahi

i purchased strongholds and followers reading through the pdf loving it so far i was wondering if you are going to release your campaign setting in a published book? because i would totally buy it!

You've mentioned The Black Company and The Belgariad. What else is in YOUR "Appendix N?"

Carlos Augusto Berlitz

Sorry if it is too personal: How do you feel about the Critical Role animation? Would you have expected such reaction or would you be pragmatic as the cast?
