considering everywhere Ash has been, "the girl that tried to kill me in the murder mansion" probably doesn't narrow it down very much.

Yeah, the victimblamey attitude towards Meowth is pretty cringey here. It came off like they were saying "Well, Meowth is a bad guy so it's okay!" when no, it absolutely is not.

To be fair to that Snubble, Wobufett is the wrong Egg Group.

If it helps, there is one silver lining in giving episodes a Dark Ball: It shows off how NOT to make a good episode. And also one that, even when I saw this decades ago (geez I feel old...), I thought something was seriously off with this kind of message, and didn't like the episode as a result.

You aren't an adventure anime protag unless you've unwittingly left broken hearts on every continent.

I knew we'd get another Dark Ball eventually but I figured it would be Psyduck episode

I remember this episode that ended the Snubble subplot, but I don't remember it being this bad. I probably didn't realize it because I was a child and didn't understand just how... wrong this was. The best thing one can say about this is "at least the snubble plot is finished"

On that note about strong trainers, someone posted this which shows that Ash is probably freaking strong https://thefloatingstone.tumblr.com/post/650459760552968192/what-are-your-thoughts-on-this

What IS it with this show and the Fairy-types??? ANY time there's a long-running future-Fairy this far back, they're a massive drag on pacing and character each and every time!

I just can't have a Pokémon season without a despicable Pokémon to wish death upon, huh? I thought I hated Jigglypuff but Snubbull really grinds my gears. Abusing Meowth is a fast ticket to my burning hatred. (Yes I hate Pikachu when he's mean spirited to Meowth as well, sue me)

The problem with Snubbull abusing Meowth is that Meowth is officially a bad guy which makes the abuse “ok” which to be fair isn’t that different from them chasing Pikachu, but that’s precisely why they shouldn’t have portrayed Snubbull as sympathetic.

I actually find it funny that Takegami used to be your favorite writer when you seemed to Rock a lot of the episodes that he’d written up to this point.

That Snubble thing really is a symptom of a larger issue, both in fiction and reality. Rarely are female characters, or women irl, held accountable for acts which would be called abusive if done by a male. I remember Doctor Who constantly having Amy Pond, one of the protagonists, constantly slapping, insulting and generally being cruel to her husband, and it was played for laughs. One time we were meant to side with her for slapping him in a serious situation, and frankly it was idiotic and contrived. Abuse and stalking should apply no matter who's doing it, but so rarely is it handled that way. "It's okay/funny because they're a girl" is a phrase I hear waaaaay too frequently in regards to this.
