Hey everyone,

I hope you're all doing well, here is episode 30 of your patroncast!

In this one, I talk about:

- 01:27: How the production agency is kinda failing at meeting the basic needs of a youtuber, and trying to "formula" the videos I wrote

- 13:31: Sponsors, vacation, and some good news for my personal life

- 21:09: Changing my setup, trying to replace 2 computers by a single one for editing and working on the channel

I hope you'll enjoy listening to this one,

Have a great week,

Nick

Hey Nick, hope the holidays are refreshing 😎. The agency sure didn't deliver on the work they had to do. For the price they're asking they don't seem very professional. Good thing you didn't follow their title suggestions for your video about your Linux problems, I think that it would have cause some pretty bad backlash to your channel. Seems like Linode is changing how they work with content creators. I know that a lot of tech channels rely on their sponsorship to make money so it's probably going to be complicating things for the channels who only have linode as a sponsor. I know about Tutanota and I think that both Protonmail and Tutanota offer interesting services. I think that it would be weird to have two sponsors that offer the same service because I doubt that they would like competition much. As a viewer I'm indifferent about it, as long as the sponsors you show aren't shady and offer interesting services while allowing you to make content I'm all for it. I'm happy for you and your girlfriend to be able to live together once she moves in with you. Not having to match schedules and having to drive for hours to see each other is less stressful. Have a nice stay at your parents with everyone and enjoy some rest 🧳

I think channels that only have Linode won't really notice it, since they can have a fixed number of videos per month, but for me who uses Linode to "plug the gaps" in my sponsorships, it's definitely not the best!

Sorry to hear about the production agency and I hope that the good news about your girlfriend balances things out a little bit 🙂 As for sponsors - afaik dealing with both competitors at once can be bad for contracts, and in fact I've even seen some creators block competitors in *youtube ads* to avoid issues with sponsors. Moving from a sponsor to its competitor is something that happens, but usually only when the contract ends, not at the same time. So if Tutao were to offer you a higher value contract or if you were to fall out with Proton I'd switch, but otherwise I'd keep Proton and have Tutao on hold. The certification company does sound really cool though! Might even be something I use.

Yeah, that's what I told these potential sponsors: as long as the Proton contract is running, I can't sign with them! They look like good products, but I don't want to run 2 of them side by side. The Linux certification company does sound pretty great, I'll need to look into them a bit more, just to make sure they're on the level and actually a good service, but this would definitely be interesting as a sponsor!
