Sports movies are awesome because sports involve some of the major themes that make movies awesome; exhilarating victories; crushing defeats; brotherhood; resilience; underdogs; individual excellence; obsession. Also - “winning the last game” = winning a championship, I think. After the regular season is over, the best teams make the playoffs. Back then there were 8 teams that made the playoffs. In 2002, the A’s lost their first round series to the Minnesota Twins 2 games to 3 games.

I'm sorry to let you know that you're a little late for the Oakland A's fan bus. The club is moving to Las Vegas. Though they will technically be the same team, it's really not the same. If you're trying to find a fan base to join via movies there are many other great ones: Field of Dreams (White Sox), Little Big League (Twins), Fever Pitch - the American version (Red Sox), or Major League (Indians, now called the Guardians, but they're still in Cleveland).

I noticed you haven't seen Field of Dreams yet. You should definitely watch that one if you're ever looking for another really good baseball/sports movie. Stars Kevin Costner.
