Happy new year everyone! I wish you good health, companionship and luck with all your hopes and dreams. I am ready to spend the next year watching more movies together!

Daamn, this movie was highly popular in my last poll, so I hope you enjoy it! I recorded this one a little bit over a year ago, right after we had moved (as you can see by the empty cabinets). The second Patreon exclusive of this week will be Moneyball!

The lady Scientist at the end, sitting next to the Virologist Assistant guy on the airplane - she is there from the future too, to make sure that they kill the Virologist Assistant in case James Cole fails to do so. That is why she said she works in Insurance. Apparently in the very first edit of the film, you could see the plane explosion reflected in young James Cole eyes.

You probably realized this long ago, but you were correct: That was Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer) as Dr. Goines. About 30 years after The Sound of Music of course. :)

This has blown my mind. I always thought this was a reference to her bringing back the disease to the future so that it can be cured then. I've always thought this was a film grounded in the ontology of temporal realism (or the "block universe") which says that all moments in time are equally real and the entire course of history is determined and inevitable. It's difficult to talk about in atemporal language, but the important thing is that everything that happens is entirely internally consistent. The events in the past portions of the timeline will inevitably lead to the future portions. But your suggestion (and the fact it was apparently intended in the original cut) is entirely plausible, too, and in fact a better fit. And I can never unsee it. Of course, the vial was already opened, so I suppose that even if she blew up his plane, people could still have gone to all the hot spots after being exposed in the airport, so it might still be a block universe in defiance even of that.
