Ski Patrol Kevin

Mary, are you aware that the audio from the film is playing in your full length reaction?

movieswithmary

Oh damn, I didn't! And weirdly enough youtube didn't block this (while it does everything else if there is too long audio). I'm re-exporting now! Thanks for letting me know

Ski Patrol Kevin

The movie is a parody of 90s horror movies and 90s teen shows. You got most of the references, including The Usual Suspects, The Matrix, The Exorcist, The Shining, The Sixth Sense, Scream and Dawson's Creek. The ones you missed: The character named Buffy Gilmore is a reference to 90s teen shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gilmore Girls. And the plot of the high school kids running over a pedestrian with their car and covering it up is a parody of the horror movie series "I Know What You Did Last Summer", which you haven't watched it seems (but neither have I). And everybody saying "WASSUP" on the phone was a reference to a popular beer commercial (Budweiser) in America from the late 90s. The ad premiered during the Superbowl, I think. It's a pretty dated reference cuz if you didn't see the commercial back in the day, you'd have no idea what the hell that joke was supposed to be in the movie. This was the beer ad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJmqCKtJnxM

I was wondering if you were trying out a new style. I know some people do the movie unblurred but silent, so I figured, "maybe you can get away with movie blurred but all the audio included."

Other than the aforementioned material from I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) (the source of the scene where they hit the pedestrian and cover it up, the beauty pageant scene, and the moment where Cindy is spinning around yelling "What are you waiting for?"), the only other major reference you wouldn't know is the scene where the reporter's nose is dribbling, which is a reference to The Blair Witch Project (1999). Some smaller notable references include: • The "Wassap?" scene, which was a parody of a famous Superbowl commercial for Budweiser beer • The fictional movie trailer for Amistad II, which is a parody of Titanic (1997) before it turns into a sequel to Amistad (1997) • Cindy becoming aggressive in bed with Bobby and screaming "Say my name!" is probably a reference to American Pie (1999) • The talk about "The Wayans Bros." TV show (this film was co-written, directed by, and stars a couple of The Wayans brothers). Also, the scene in the movie theater is in part a parody of a scene from Scream 2 (1997), and the clip during the credits is a reference to Scream 3 (2000). Scream 2 is very much worth watching, as is Scream 4 (2011). Scream 3 is a step down, but if you're going to watch up to 4 (or beyond it, to 2022's Scream or 2023's Scream VI), it's worth seeing.

Some popular movies you could watch if you want more of the American movie high school and/or college party experience: • American Pie (1999) and American Pie 2 (2001) • Blockers (2018) • Booksmart (2019) • Can't Hardly Wait (1998) • Clueless (1995) • Dazed and Confused (1993) • Election (1999) • Heathers (1988) • Just One of the Guys (1985) • Legally Blonde (2001) • Mean Girls (2004) -- there is a musical remake coming out in January, so that'd be good timing • National Lampoon's Animal House (1978) • Old School (2003)* • Orange County (2002) • Sixteen Candles (1984) • Superbad (2007) • Valley Girl (1983) *sort of, anyway Some other teen comedies that are good or notable but do not have parties that I can remember: • American Graffiti (1973) • Better Off Dead (1985) • Breakfast Club, The (1980) • Bring It On (2000) • Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) • Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) • Juno (2007) • Pretty in Pink (1986)

The first time I saw Scary Movie was when it just came out on VHS and DVD in the early 2000s. I was still a teenager. Probably still am lol. I think that was the only time I ever watched the whole movie so this is my second time watching it and I'm never watching this again lol. Too gross and not my kind of comedy. I did find some stuff funny, but somethings were too much. I do want to see Scary Movie 2. Never seen it and maybe they toned it down some in the sequel. Maybe lol. I'm surprised you know Scream, Mary. With the movies you've reacted to, I wonder what movies and shows do they have to show in Belgium? lol I don't think I saw any Halloween references. There were a lot of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Also The Blair Witch Project. Another movie I'm shocked you've seen. The Blair Witch Project was only made with a budget of 200 to 750k but made over 200 million. You would think it launch the careers of the filmmakers and the actors in the movie but sadly nope. The Waynes Bros. were fired after Scary Movie 2 so which is why they didn't make anymore after part two.
