Hi peeps!

House of the dragon is on it's way, but this week we have a movie first. And in my opinion a very fun one indeed! Surprise! :D

When this was released, depending in what theater you saw this you would get one of the three endings. And if you're still looking for suggestions of a similar movie; Murder by Death (1976) another murder mystery with a comedic element. Knives Out and Clue always felt to me like they were inspired by that one.

In the theaters when initially released only one ending was shown. All versions of the film with the various possible endings were released, so it was possible that you left the film thinking one character was the murderer, while your neighbor may have seen a version with a different conclusion. Fun idea.

When Knives Out was released, Johnson said he felt it was natural for people to think of Clue, but pointed out that Clue is technically a spoof or parody of the kind of movie Knives Out is supposed to be (Murder on the Orient Express, The Last of Sheila, that kind of thing).

You've also seen Madeline Kahn in Blazing Saddles. She was one of Mel Brooks' most frequent collaborators. Additionally, Professor Plum was played by Christopher Lloyd, otherwise known as Doc Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy.

BJ Stephens

I saw it was already mentioned, but there is a very similar whodunnit comedy/mystery film called Murder By Death, which I would highly second Mary.

Bryan Tuck

Glad you enjoyed this one. I know we've mentioned it before, but you might also really like WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT from 1988. It's like a detective movie crossed with a Looney Tunes cartoon. :)

David Lonewolf Wright

J. Edgar Hoover was the first director of the FBI and ran it for almost 40 years. He pushed for a lot of modernization and using science for investigating crime. He is also known for a lot of abuses with his power as he collected information beyond criminal investigations and more than likely used that power to remain in his position till the day he died. There is a Leo DiCaprio movie where he plays Hoover that I felt took even more creative liberties than what was real, but is an interesting dive that is "mostly" trueish.

Another movie in this genre is Sleuth. An old favorite of mine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleuth_(1972_film)

I didn't get why they had like three different endings. Good movies, but the ending made no sense. I thought it was over when they showed the first "not ending" and I changed the channel. Then weeks or a year later, it's on tv again and I'm seeing the rest of the movie I didn't know they had and just made no sense why they did it like that. Tim Curry is the greatest. Rocky Horror Picture Show reaction

Richard Maurer

To make it even weirder, when Clue was originally shown in theaters you only got one of the three endings, so depending on where you went to the movies you got a different ending. I don't know why they decided to have all three endings on the home version but it doesn't really work, imo.

Did I miss something? Mary usually posts breaking bad on Thursday. Is everything ok?

Hi Mary, 1st time on Patreon, how do I find your polls. Anyone who’s out there, chime in with an answer.

resinmonkey .

There is a Halloween poll down the page a bit. She posts the polls here when she has one. She also asks for suggestions sometimes when she likes a genre.

Tyler Foster

She has been doing fewer polls as of recently because she was planning her wedding and now is moving, which means she has to try and pre-record movies so they can go up on weeks where she's actually busy. I expect you will see more polls in November and afterward once she is finished moving.
