Mr. Writhms

Referring to your question about Schwarzenegger's physical shape: He's been that muscular long before this movie. Before he was a movie star, he was a world champion bodybuilder in the 70s. In fact, by the time he made "Predator" he had lost a good deal of muscle mass since he retired from competition bodybuilding in 1980. If you see him in "Conan the Barbarian" (1982), he was still pretty massive.

Tiger Chu

He actually lost around 25 pounds before filming in order to make himself look leaner to fit the role better. He still looks huge

Some Information about the Predator in this Movie. The Species you saw in the Movie is called Yautja. A Predator can be of any Species, not only Yautja´s. Thre was even a Human Woman who once was a Predator. The Yautja Species is very intelligent and old. They can live up to 1500 years, and they have a fascinating Society/Culture/Code of Honour. There Society is split up into different Clans and their Trophyhunting defines their rankingsystem in a Clan. Xenomorphs have a special place in those Hunts because they are so dangerous. Unblooded Yautjas are the lowest rank in their Society and many of them die in their Training. They who survies are calle Young Bloods. They have to kill a Xenomorph until they can rise into the rank of blooded. Compare Young Bloods to Teenagers if you want. Young Yautjas with some experience. The Predator in this Movie was a blooded one. For more Information i suggest this Video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh_KiFDLYaE It explains alot about the Species and takes a look on a l,ot of different Variants of Yautja. One last thing. This Movie is widely considered as the best Movie in the Franchise. Most would say that Predator 2 is the second best and Prey and Predators are sharing third place. I like Prey more then Predator 2, mostly because of the pacing but thats only me.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was a very famous body builder in the 1960's who later went into acting. He was named Mr. Universe at age 20, and won seven Mr. Olympia bodybuilder contests in the 70's, so he didn't have to "buff up" for this movie. He didn't really have any problems with women(well, later he did), he married Maria Shriver, the niece of U.S. President John F. Kennedy. He was one of the biggest movie stars of the 80's and 90's. He went into politics and was elected Governor of California twice. If he was born a U.S. citizen he probably could have gotten elected President. He got out of office and went back to making movies. Predator is very typical of the action movies he made in the 80's. All of your patrons want you to react to True Lies, lol, a very excellent action movie that he made with James Cameron (Titanic, Avatar) and Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween). I'm pretty sure about that, lol.

I never watched this move in full *BUT* I have watched "Prey" at least three times since came out, so I'm hoping this a step toward you potentially watching that in the future! :)

Brian Jones

I would highly recommend watching Predator 2 as well as Predators before watching Prey. They are both better films. Prey is roughly 4th in line in regards to the quality of the predator films.

Also, to answer your questions.... "Were all of the women all over him in the 80's?" - Yes, but he was already a huge name in bodybuilding in the 70's before he even started his career in film. He had already won the Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia competitions multiple times and was on the cover of almost every magazine imaginable. So in short, yeah, the chicks were all over him. :) "Was he a Harrison Ford type of guy?" - No. Harrison Ford actually had serious acting chops. Arnold was pretty much strictly an action star. For his first film, Conan the Barbarian, he could still barely speak English. And no, he didn't get into shape for this film, he was pretty much always in this kind of shape. Again, he had already spent the entirety of the 70's as a world-renowned bodybuilder. "Out of Alien, The Thing, and Predator, which is the scariest?" Predator really isn't a horror film per say. It's more an action film with horror elements. Both Alien and The Thing are straight up horror, so it's really not in the same category of film. The Thing is psychological horror through claustrophobia and isolation, and Alien is more atmospheric horror. Predator is really just an action film with an alien in it.

A funny thing about the PREDATOR series is that, although there are nods here and there to previous entries in the later ones, each one functions pretty well as a standalone thriller. There aren't really any story arcs that you have to keep up with. That said, this first one is the best, but they all have their moments. PREY is probably the second best.

Hey there Mari! So glad you watched one of my FAVORITE action films. I'd like to fill you in on some things. Someone else in the comments talked about the Yautja a little so I'm not gonna rehash that. I do think you should watch Predator 2 next. I personally think that all the rest of them are trash which is a crying shame, in my opinion. I don't know if you have been exposed to Jesse Ventura before. He's been a WWF wrestler, an actor and a politician (governor of the state of minnesota) But before all that he was actually a real life Navy Seal during the post vietnam war era. In Predator 2 you get a small glimpse into the predator society. The basic idea is that they have a strong sense of honor and a code by which they conduct their hunts. That is why the Yautja facing off with Dutch at the end of this film took off his plasma-caster to face Dutch hand to hand. I personally think that the Prey film was just another hollywood piece of shit with a Mary Rey Sue imbued with plot armor of deity level. I own the original Aliens Vs Predator comics and if AVP had used that story, and the film and been put together well, it would have made for a fantastic movie. Instead, someone took a giant shit on a paper plate, sprinkled some glitter on it, wrapped it up in tinfoil and said "we're gonna film THIS instead......" the comics had a story which was excellent, characters which were relatable and it stayed within the canon of both franchises.....such a shame that the studio crapped all over it.....anyway, just my two cents....

Next is the Predator prequel Prey. Which should of been watched first but ole va lol

Future_Boy85

Did you check your testosterone level afterwards Mary? 😅 Every time I watch this movie more hair grows on my face and chest 😛 I hope you plan on at least watching Predator 2 before you watch Prey. Most people will tell you not to and that it's not as good as the first. I don't think that's true plus it expands upon the Predator lore/origins 🤯

You asked if Arnold had to bulk up for his role in this movie? The answer is no. Arnold was a world champion body builder long before his movie career. He set a new standard for big men with big muscles. Before him most body builders were fairly short and compact. He is well over 6ft tall and blew the competition out of the water for years. If anything, he was smaller in this movie. Loved your reaction as always.

Well, he's not well over 6'. He himself has said 6' 1.5'' multiple times. People are surprised actually that he's not as tall as he looks in movies.

You just need to start chewing tobacco Mary! "This stuff will make you a Goddamn sexual Tyrannosaurus... just like me!" (I'm just kidding of course, don't ever chew tobacco.)
