I finally saw Top Gun Maverick with this watch a along. I wish I saw this sooner. Apart from my nit picking here and there, I liked this movie better than the original. Even though Top gun Maverick felt more like remix of the original than a sequel. Also hilarious they give "Rooster" a mustache just to imply he's Goose's son. Like just saying he's Goose's son wasn't enough. At least he wasn't named "Duck." Jennifer Connally was a teenager when Top Gun came out. She had just come out with Labyrinth a year before Top Gun. By the way, Labyrinth reaction request. The Iceman scene was emotional for me not just because of the story, but personal reasons. I thought the Darkstar jet was going to be used again at the end of the movie. They kept saying they have to get to the target and out of enemy territory fast. I thought it was hinting to use the Darkstar in the third act. Coyote, Phoenix, Bob, and Fanboy(horrible name) felt under used. Background characters. Hangman is a lot similar to when Maverick was younger. An arrogant show off, but the difference is Maverick cared about his own wingmen. Hangman is playing lone wolf who doesn't care. I do love this movie. Much better than the original. This movie is Sick. Mary, be careful when reacting to future Paramount movies. I heard from another reactor(sorry you're not my only reactor lol) that Paramount not liking reactors reacting to their movies and may be taken to court. Something like that.

"Wash me out" would be booting him from the class, essentially, or failing him. Val Kilmer suffered from throat cancer in real life, and can no longer speak normally. Incorporating his disability into the film so that he could still appear in it was a great decision and provided the basis for one of the film's best scenes. The actor who played Bob is Lewis Pullman, son of Bill Pullman, the actor from Independence Day and Zero Effect. Also, the character of Penny (Jennifer Connelly) is both new and a reference to the original: Maverick is reprimanded for an incident involving the "admiral's daughter," and Goose whispers "Penny Benjamin." So she doesn't appear in the first movie, but they drew on that when creating her character.

And THAT is how you do nostalgia properly while making a sequel that's better than the original. And yes, that's Tom's plane (P-51 Mustang) at the end. :) Great reaction as always, glad you enjoyed the movie.

Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until November to watch this with your reaction since it won't be available to own on Blu-ray until then. TOP GUN MAVERICK is by far my favorite film from this summer and could possibly be my favorite film of the year. It delivered everything I could have hoped for and beyond.

btw a lot of that is in camera. As in loads of cameras attached to real F-18s. The actors being in the back seats whilst actual IRL aviators fly them. The end is a lot more CG with the old plane tho. However the very end scene with the WW2 plane, that is Tom Cruise's P-51 Mustang and he was indeed flying that for real.

What a blast watching Top Gun Maverick with you Mary! Like you, I enjoyed the original Top Gun, but I absolutely loved the sequel! Plus, how about Jennifer Connelly (at age 51) and Tom Cruise (at age 59 during filming; now 60)!! They must have discovered the Fountain of Youth! Wow!

You should watch Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Both awesome movies with the second being very recent.

My first time watching this as well. Wow wow wow. InCredAble follow up. Left me actually breathless with finger marks on my arm rests. I'm on a break this week and catching up on reactions. What the heck can I follow this up with!

Top Gun was one, if not the reason, I applied to the Air Force. Unfortunately, I was rejected due to health reasons. But this new Top Gun really brought back all those emotions. Reminded me why I loved planes. I'm glad you like it. By the way I thought it was super cool that when Tom Cruise does the 2:15 run to show the students it can be done. That it actually took 2 minutes 15 seconds on screen if you time it. Fantastic level of detail. Best movie of the year.
