I wanted to watch this one because it's a Nolan war movie, so it couldn't be bad. I only realized when I started that Dunkirk is the translation for 'Duinkerke' very close to where I live. Sometimes that's crazy to think about. I loved the different time perspectives that this one handled, altough I have to admit I only figured that out when I was finished. What did you think of this one?

Awesome, glad you got to this one. I really enjoyed it. Amazing cinematography. Also really looking forward to Oppenheimer coming out next year. I love the Nolan brain-twisters and Sci-Fi, but it's nice to see him do historical pieces as he's such a masterful director regardless of subject matter. Plan on doing Tenet any time soon?

That was fun Mary! I think it deserves a re-watch because the movie is very jumbled from a time perspective. For instance when Tom Hardy’s character (the hero pilot) sees his friend go down and then waves at him because the thinks he’s ok because he’s waving back, that’s actually the guy later in the movie who is waving because he can’t get his cockpit hatch open and is drowning. This movie is in such a confusing order at times that it’s fun upon rewatching it to put all the pieces into order. I’d love to watch a version where someone reassembled it linearly. I wonder if it would feel like a different movie altogether. (Much as I imagine Memento would be fun to watch that way too). Tenet does a lot of similar things but in the most unique (and most complex) way yet for Nolan. You’ll enjoy it when you get to it. I hope your wedding was great. Congratulations!!!

Darkest Hour, which is told from Churchill's perspective, would be a great complement to this movie. Also Mary, the next time you're looking to start a new tv series, Peaky Blinders would be an awesome watch. It's got Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy in it.

Awesome reaction. Watching this with you and seeing it hit home so hard reminded me of how I felt in theaters. Also, in IMAX this movie was on a whole different level. Another recent war film that is every bit of a masterpiece as this is 1917. Would love to see you react to that. The unique thing about this war film is the technique to appear as if everything that happens in the entire movie is one continuous shot. Which is not only incredible in a technical filmmaking sense, but it's incredibly immersive. It's the reason that in 2019 it won 10 oscars including Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Score, Best Visual Effects. If you love war films this is a must see. It literally could be argued that it's the best all around war film ever. Thanks again Mary! Looking forward to Breaking Bad in a few days!

I've been saving this reaction to do with another reactor I'd requested it from. The film I had them watch before this was •The Darkest Hour. Because of the tie in. Please consider that one for a later date.
