Since I'm always super out of the loop on movies that are connected to a certain time of the year, I wanted to jump on this one! The movie was NOTHING like I anticipated haha, but I did have a good time!

these huge ships worked so well in the theaters there's a shot were you see the perspective of the girl climbing to the roof to join the weirdos, it's so nothing when you see it on tv but i remember feeling a little sick seeing the ship so close like that. from your reaction I'd say these fx have held up pretty well, you should check out the making of to see some of the finest miniature work ever done.

FYI, you have "IndependEnce" spelled wrong.

Those of us in the US who have spent some time in Benelux can find it. And I have a friend whse husband spends a fair amount of time in Brussels working with NATO, so I'd bet she can find Belgium on a map.

The President's very tiny daughter is played by Mae Whitman, who grew up to play Ramona's ex Roxy Richter in Scott Pilgrim (as well as one of the main characters in the TV cartoon "Avatar: The Last Airbender").

Bill Pullman (president) speech is still referenced today. Greatest speech in his career.

Jeff Martens

"No way the president doesn't know." Actually, would you trust someone like Trump with anything sensitive? It might depend on the president.

Loved this reaction! I love how you realized how goofy it was but still enjoyed it haha. That's really the essence of this movie. Another movie I would love along this line would be Armageddon. Although, I wouldn't say it's as goofy as Independence Day. I think It would make for a great reaction. Tons of famous stars at their most likable. Great action and fun storyline. Good music and with humor and emotion in all the right places. So many classic "react-able" scenes in this movie from that era. I think you would love it!

Jeff Martens

I would definitely say Armageddon is as goofy (wildly implausible on all fronts) as this. I saw that once, and that was enough. I saw this one in theatres and tonight; I think once every 26 years is often enough.

If, for any reason, you actually wanted to see something fact-based on the independence of the US, this can be difficult, especially with modern movies preference for action set-pieces over history. 1776 (1972) is a musical version of many key events. The HBO mini-series John Adams (2008) is far superior, but with fewer action scenes... or songs. The Patriot (2000) is an action movie set in the same period, but represents the American Revolution about as accurately as Independence Day, but with fewer aliens.

No offense but you saw the movie once a long time ago so your perspective isn't reliable. Armageddon is just as implausible I'll give you that, but nowhere near as goofy. The dialogue, the action, and script is much more polished than Independence Day. Not everything needs to be a masterpiece to be an enjoyable movie. Don't be a film snob, sir.

Brian Jones

Yes, this was considered a big dumb action film even in the 90's.... But very popular for what it was. And yes, Area 51 actually exists. Does it contain alien aircraft? No ( at least as far as we know :).... It's where we develop fighter and stealth aircraft prototypes for the military before they go into production, among other secret military projects. But it is a real place. It has always been shrouded in quite a bit of mystery as it's a very large piece of property in the middle of the desert in Nevada, and civilians can't really get anywhere near the actual base. Hence all the rumors and mystery. :)

Brian Jones

I'd second a reaction to Armageddon.... It's another dumb, fun popcorn film with some great humor in it.

The Patriot was also directed by the same guy who made Independence Day (Roland Emmerich) which is why The Patriot is a braindead movie in of itself. Emmerich excels at making brainless big budget junk that people just love to gobble up.

David Lonewolf Wright

I remember this was one of the most anticipated movies with I believe the first teaser trailer a full year before it was scheduled to release. I got to see the movie a week before it's official release after winning tickets from a radio station. It definitely represented that 90's era movie vibe.

Before Will Smith was slapping people like a chump puppet, he was pushing Aliens and was the man. When Mary said thought this might be a Historic films, I was like nope lol. Independence Day is the day we fought back after running from the aliens and them annihilating America. I'm glad you enjoyed it Maru. Some reason, I do like it better now then when I was a teen. I don't know why. Jeff Goldblum is the best at everything. $20, Mary doesn't know E.T. If you haven't seen E.T yet Mary, drop all movies and shows and react to E.T. Whatever movie you have next, it can wait. E.T gets to the front of the line. That's how great E.T is. A great classic. Funny, heart warming, exciting, it will be your new favorite. The beginning of Independence Day is the best part. From the beginning to after July 2 after the alien ships wiped out Washington D.C, New York, and California.
