Hi peeps!

Since I'm working hard to get all the January uploads ready (almost done!), I have less polls to post on Monday then I'd like. So instead I'm offering an extra surprise upload! :) This won't come to youtube, so it will be a Patreon exclusive reaction.

Tell me about Zodiac and if you liked this movie. I'm a true crime junkie so I'd love to get more recommendations in this category ! :)

It's not "true" crime, but A SIMPLE PLAN from 1998 is a really good fictional crime thriller.

MindHunter is on netflix. By the same director. Loosely based on true stories.

The movie that Tosci and Graysmith were attending together in 1973 was DIRTY HARRY, which involved a serial killer named Scorpio, who shoots innocent people throughout San Francisco with a sniper rifle. The film's climax involves the killer hijacking a school bus full of kids. Thankfully the film's hero "Dirty" Harry Callahan takes him out before he can cause any harm to the kids. The movie was such a huge hit, Warner Bros. made 4 sequels throughout the 70's and 80's with its titular star Clint Eastwood. The term "looming" which Paul Avery says, is a term meaning loitering about; being a silent nuisance as it were. This movie is adapted direct from Robert Graysmith's best selling book. Graysmith himself was technical advisor throughout the film's production. Amongst the actors you recognized in the film, I wasn't sure if you knew the actor who played Tosci's partner. It Anthony Edwards who starred on "E.R." alongside George Clooney during the 90s. Jake Gyllenhaal has starred in a couple other outstanding crime dramas that a highly highly recommend: PRISONERS (2013), a missing person thriller from the director of DUNE. Also NIGHTCRAWLER (2014), an eerie movie about freelance cameramen who sell crime scene footage to news networks. As one of the other comments mentioned David Fincher's GONE GIRL and the Netflix MINDHUNTER are excellent choices to watch for future viewing. I hope you can make a YouTube edit of this sometime in the future, I have no doubt many viewers would love to see and hears your thoughts on this masterpiece of a movie.

This was a nightmare to keep synced up 😭😭😭

Robert Graysmith had a big hand in this movie; Robert Graysmith also believes that Arthur Leigh Allen is, was, the Zodiac Killer. So of course the movie tends to lean that way as well. Others aren't so convinced. In his book "Popular Crime" (which I highly recommend - it's pretty much a chronological walk through popular crimes in American history), Bill James said that he didn't believe Arthur Leigh Allen was the Zodiac Killer. He said he had his own theories, but he didn't get into them in that book (which was really disappointing, obviously); he said maybe he'd explore the case in a future book. (I doubt he will, honestly, but I hope he does.)

Another Fincher movie; I'm down. That's three now: Se7en, Fight Club, and now Zodiac. I recommend pretty much all his stuff, but "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is the one I'd recommend most highly of his stuff that you have yet to watch. Somebody else on here mentioned "Mindhunter", a tv show that is also a Fincher joint; it *definitely* has a lot of the same DNA as Zodiac. I honestly couldn't get into the first season but the second was excellent.

I am still hoping you watch The Insider, which is not technically "true crime" in the way Zodiac is, but I think will give you many of the same vibes.

To say the least. It went way out of sync about 10 times for me, and she uses such a heavy blur it makes it very difficult to resync.

The recent revelation you're referring to in your review of the movie is not for Zodiac, but for the Golden State Killer, Joseph James D'Angelo. DNA evidence from a relative proved that a long-time suspect was, in fact, the killer. Since you're a fellow True Crime fan, I would highly recommend you check out the HBO Docuseries, I'll Be Gone In the Dark, and the podcast, Man in the Window. As I'm just getting around to watching this reaction, and this was several months ago, you probably already learned all of this for yourself, but in case it slipped your mind or anyone else was curious. Anyway, great reaction to a fantastic movie, one of the best of the 21st century, in my opinion. Look forward to more crime drama reactions. Some that I would recommend: L.A. Confidential Wind River Hell or High Water Night of the Hunter Monster Black Christmas (1974) No Country for Old Men Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (also by Fincher if you go with the American version) Seven, Silence of the Lambs, Psycho, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre are in the list too, but I believe you've already reacted to all of them.

I love these informal reactions :)
