I've seen this movie a dozen times but the tears and the goosebumps still happen every time. One bit that I don't think you saw because you were looking away from the screen for a minute. After he built the field a full year past. We saw snow covering the field and the bleachers and Ray looking out the window at it with a Christmas celebration going on behind him. It made it so much more plausible that Annie was trying to gently encourage him to let them replant the corn there when Joe finally showed up.
