Dude I'm almost 70 and I haven't written a check in 20 years! But back when this movie came out, they were still very much a thing! And "The check is in the mail" is a time-honored way of lying to a creditor who wants his money.

Suggestion for another comedy/western. Cat Ballou. Good story famous actors , for the time. Fun movie overall. Oscar win for Lee Marvin, nominated for many other Oscars.
