When you first mentioned that you were gonna be watching The Pacific, my first thought was "Yes! That's awesome! I can't WAIT to see Mary react to this!" but it was immediately followed up with "oh. Oh... yeah, uh, the Okinawa episode's gonna mess her up..." (What is it with HBO shows tearing out our hearts in Episode 9s? GoT just destroying Starks, BoB dropping us into a concentration camp, and then *this*...) When this first came out, I really appreciated them giving us a whole episode of "coming home". That kinda felt missing from Band of Brothers, even though I think Winters' voiceover was a nice way of wrapping things up. (Plus the reveals of who all the veteran interviewees were.) But with Pacific they really wanted to let us know that some guys came home from the war, but didn't really come home from the war. Okay. Ideas: If you want a good followup to this, I'd love to see you watch Flags Of Our Fathers. It's a story about Marines on Iwo Jima (the battle where Basilone was killed) and some of the survivors. Generation Kill is another miniseries about Marines, this one during the beginning of the Iraq War. (Fair warning: That one's kinda niche, they don't bother to explain some things that non-veterans might not pick up on.) And... this has nothing to do with The Pacific, but talking about how they depicted PTSD reminded me of this show: Peaky Blinders. WW1 vets having PTSD is only a minor part of that show, but they do it really well. Someday when you've finished Sopranos and The Wire and all the other shows you're tackling, please check it out. Cillian Murphy is just So Good in that show.

I think you should definitely watch HBO’s Rome
