January sketch (Patreon)

And we've finally got the vote sketch for january. This time i actually managed to remember to take a bunch of progress shots.

All in all a bit of a picture of two halves. I knew it'd be a picture more complex than the one i did before, which were mostly portraits or pretty simple landscapes.
So a full body picture on a pretty small canvas, that also is rather rough, making it tough to really get in there and detail it was always a bit of a reach.

I figured especially the head would be a problem and perhaps putting it in shadow would end up working best. It did...sorta... certainly made it manageable, but my execution is probably lacking. Looks a bit clumsy, the body and arm doesn't quite read as clearly as I'd like and the actual signs of the whole masturbation bit i needed to get rid of because it just was too small to work out.

Still got elements i like, and for a first attempt at something like this in oil I could have certainly done worse. But hey, mistakes are there to be learned from. So hopefully I can better spot these issues ahead of time and plan around them.
