i honestly understand noya’s frustration because as he mentioned last episode and this episode again, as long as the ball is still in play then the game isn’t lost. so asahi not going for a spike on a ball noya kept in play, it feels like asashi gave up on him and the team. but at the same time i also understand asahi for feeling like he was letting everyone down when they were working hard to keep the ball in play but he wasn’t scoring. the commentator even mentioned how the defence was great but the offence was lacking, burdening him even more. also you’ll get used to their 5 minutes monologue for one play. sometimes flashbacks are even included 😂 and you will get attached to a LOT of characters even from different teams. i never liked volleyball but i watched haikyuu out of curiosity and somehow i ended up wanting every team to win because the show knows how to make you care not only for the karasuno players but also recurring characters from other teams or even those that show up only for an episode or two.

I think that’s what Haikyuu does best. It gets you emotionally. Especially when you’re watching a sport you may not know the rules to or understand the essence of, it’s easy to feel detached and not pay much interest to everything that’s going on. But Haikyuu breaks it down for anyone to understand easily even if you don’t know much about it. It captures those beautiful and emotional moments so well which you could easily overlook either because you don’t know the sport well, you don’t like it and want nothing to do with it, or you’re busy focusing on the technical aspects and the strategical thinking involved, especially as a player. It does a fantastic job displaying the charm of sports but volleyball in particular. I can say that confidently as I used to play volleyball and other sports when I was younger, but I’m convinced it would be hard to not be moved at all at one point or another or fail to see it’s charm even if you are someone who doesn’t like it or sports in general (or you just don’t play any sports) because of how well the whole story is set up and how well the anime as a whole is made.
