😍 Btw Kevin's audio goes a little weird from 00:36:28 up until 00:39:27 (don't know the exact second). Not a major issue but I just wanted to let you know😊 β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” I watched this drama when it first came out at the end of 2020 and I haven’t rewatched it since, so my memory of it is a little wonky. I completely forgot that it was the brother that had shape-shifted into the student. But to try and summarize/explain this episode and what you need to know. Lee Yeon (Lee Dong-wook) is a nine-tailed fox that is over 1000 years old. His younger brother Lee Rang (Kim Bum) is also a fox and is 600 years old. Their relationship will be explained later on but right now we can see that they are not on great terms. Lee Yeon used to be a guardian mountain spirit but gave that up so that his first love could be reincarnated and that is who he has been looking for all this time. That is why he asked the younger version of the female lead if she was Ah-eum. The glowy thing that came from his hand will be explained later. Because he gave up his position as a guardian spirit he’s now signed to a contract where he has to hunt supernatural beings that threaten the human world. This is why he goes after the bride and the student. And Kevin was right. The reason he killed the bride was not because she was getting married but because she had killed a lot of people before. The female lead Nam Ji-ah (Jo Bo-ah) was in a car accident when she was younger and her parents disappeared. The accident was caused by two foxes, which are those who pose as her parents and want to eat her. Since no bodies were found she still believes that they are alive somewhere (we can see that she has missing people posters at home). Because of what happened she gets into the supernatural stuff and now works as a PD for a show that covers urban legends. Lee Yeon is the one who saves her but he tries to compel her to forget but it doesn’t work on her. Tho it seems like she doesn’t really recognize him at first cause it has been a while and she covered her face for the most of it (when she saw him when she was younger). This is only the first episode so most of it will make sense later on as you get more of the backstory and as the story progresses. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” You have actually seen the actor (Kim Bum) that plays the younger brother before but I doubt that you remember himπŸ˜‚ He was a part of the Starship Game Caterers special and was in the same actor team as Dong-wook. They made some references there to this series and the fact that they played brothers. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” There is a season 2 to this show called The Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 that I haven't checked out yet and the only thing I know is that it takes place in 1938. Don't know how much it connects to the first season tho. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” The Nine-taled fox, also called Gumiho, is a supernatural being that appears in a lot of Korean folklore but also around other countries in east Asia (but with different names/versions). The Gumiho is usually depicted as a supernatural fox that can turn into a beautiful woman. In the stories told it is mostly malevolent and it feast on human flesh/livers. Through out time the story of the Gumiho has changed and there are many different stories and versions. The most common thing through out the stories and their versions is that the main goal of the Gumiho is to turn human. The way to reach this goal varies. Since there are so many different stories and descriptions of what a gumbo is/does it was hard to summarize it but I tried my bestπŸ˜…

so happy you started this show this is my first time starting the show with you, i will try to watch it in parallel so i can also come up with theories and be confused with you guys. The narration in the beginning i think means that the 100 year fox turns into a beautiful woman or handsome man who can mate with humans i guess or a man who can mate with a beautiful woman. Something with the translation. The place where the family was driving to is Yeou Gogae which is a hill are in Korea and it literally means Fox Head. The boy in the park was so cute. i found it so funny that he is working for after life again like when he was Grim Reaper. Then he references Grim Reaper as well later on the show. This was such a fun episode, and Ji A is so smart. She is really amazing. I agree this reminds of Vampire diaries, but i enjoy this much much more :) :) Waiting for next episode now.

I totally forgot Kim Kangmin (The actor that plays the guy that works with Jiah) from To My Star (BL) was also in this! It was a pleasant "surprise" to see him here again! This drama is really fun but also I love the action and the visual effects. I've always LOVED fantasy K-dramas, so I'm always happy to rewatch some good Gumiho (Nine tailed fox) themed dramas with you guys!

Son Woohyun, his boyfriend in To My Star, is also in this show later, they even have a scene together πŸ˜‚ It's also funny that Kevin and David have seen Son Woohyun, Lee Dong wook and Kim Bum together in the Starship Game Caterers.

The Gumiho (nine-tailed fox) is a well-known creature in Korean mythology that appears in folktales and urban legends. There are similar tales all throughout East Asia, for example the Japanese Kitsune (everyone who has watched Teen Wolf knows this one haha). Yeou means fox in Korean, the street where the accident with her parents happened is called Yeou Gogae (literally fox pass, can also mean fox head), that's also where the bus passed through. Lee Dongwook's hair color is supposed to resemble fox fur in case you haven't noticed lol, also foxes don't like water. Both Lee Dongwook and Kim Bum (I'll call him the evil fox brother haha) were on Starship Game Caterers. You will see another actor from there in this show soon, Son Woohyun. Meruka's comment and my response already mentioned it but him and Kim Kangmin, the actor who plays the female leads coworker, play a couple in one of the best Korean BLs To My Star and they share a scene in this drama! Seems like Kevin's audio got messed up from around 35 minutes in but luckily it was normal again after like 5 minutes

Wow, I am so glad you guys started this drama because I really wanna watch S2 of this drama but I can't without watching S1 lol. I think I started S1 in 2021 and stopped after 5eps or so lol. I wanna watch S2 now but can't seem to go back to S1! But now I can finally watch it with you!~ Also, it's fun to see Dong Wook and Kim Beom again after seeing them in Starship Games Caterer hehe. Also one fun fact, weirdly one of the urban legends about foxes from this drama kinda matched with my culture too! I was kinda shocked the first time around too, cuz its similar. Like in my culture when it rains while it's sunny/bright my elders used to say "A fox is getting married". And even here Dongwook said that it suddenly rained cuz a fox was getting married. Oh, and speaking of Dongwook I loved the Grim Reaper callback haha. Also David the TVD reference tho wow!! I was such a sucker for TVD back in high school.

I'm at the start and this reminds me of a dream I had when I was little. I had a dream that my mom went out for something and when she returned she was walking and acting weird. It was so creepy, she wouldn't say anything and just slowly walk around and towards me in the dark. I have the image still so clear in my head. I just knew that that wasn't my mom.
