2023-01-20 17:00:50 Okay, so I recently subscribed to the patreon to binge these iland reactions and now that I've finished, I can dump all my thoughts into one comment. There is a lot. So like, congrats or sorry. I watched the show since the first episode while it was airing and I kind of wanted to explain what was really going down at the time of the finale. Honestly, this was the best lineup that could've come out of the show. I honestly didn't think that this was the lineup we were going to get and I feel like most people watching at the time felt similarly. With Sunoo's popularity, most people thought he'd easily rank within the debut group. Similarly, with K's skills at the time it was also thought that he'd rank within the debut group. With so many spots that seemed guaranteed, I thought Jake or Ni-ki wasn't going to make it in. This was the biggest conflict for me at the time because Jake was my one pick since the first episode and Ni-ki was in my top 7 since the start of part 2. I didn't want to give either of them up. The controversies with K didn't really reach big news like Garam's for example, and I don't think it got out of the circle of people who were keeping up with the show. Even then, it didn't really compromise his popularity by much. It did however turn him into a really polarizing character, you either stood by him or not at all. It seriously divided the viewers into people who liked K vs people who didn't. In terms of votes at the finale, he actually ranked within the top 7. The reason why he didn't debut ultimately came down to the producers thinking Sunoo was the best fit for Enhypen. This came as a shock for as many reasons as you could think of. Nobody expected them to fall outside the top 6 global votes. Nobody thought the final spot would have to be picked between them. Even though I was personally rooting for Sunoo at this point when you think of their skills comparatively, I think most people assumed the producers were going to pick K. I think they both expected K to be called as well. You can see it in the way Sunoo looked at K when it was announced. I could even go as far as to say I think most of the debut line thought K was going to be called. What I think started his "downfall" so to speak, was the BTS episode. A lot of army who weren't watching the show were tuning in to see the tannies, so his response to Sunoo and Daniel ranking top 2 immediately made people question his character. Those who continued to watch the show from this point already had a poor first impression of him, while those who were watching from the beginning were like, "no this isn't him. this is just a bad moment pls he's embarrassing us in front of guests." He then continued to have more bad moments and the controversy surrounding a racist tweet he made before the show. There were many interpretations of the tweet, but at the end of the day, his words still hurt people who once supported him. Even with context, many found his words to be inexcusable. Once the show ended, I don't think it was ever addressed. I think the person K was at the time wasn't ready to be in a group. He showed the mentality of a solo artist. He lacked the team skills that were so developed in the rest of the contestants, most notably in Heeseung, Jay, and Jungwon. Though all his conflicts were resolved easily, I feel like if they were to debut together and Heeseung or Jungwon became his leader, I'm not sure how that dynamic would be for him and how that would affect the team as a whole. From the jump, Heeseung was fully willing and trusting to hand over the responsibilities he held during I-LAND with Jungwon and help him as a team member rather than their leader. For example, when Hanbin was being led by Jay during Dive Into You, he fully trusted Jay to be his leader and didn't ever question his authority though the age gaps between Jay and Hanbin were similar to that of K and Heeseung. It was seen in that same challenge in Flicker's team. Though Heeseung wasn't named leader, it was his song and member choice that came with his first-place benefit. He wasn't given the room to lead even when he was fully ready to become the leader of the challenge as he's the one who curated the group in the first place. It could fully come down to their cultural differences. With that being said, I don't know if K at the time would've been as giving to a leader of Enhypen that wasn't him. I don't follow &Audition, so I assume those who say K's improved in these areas are right. This is getting really long, but I wanted to provide insight. At the finale, I think most people focused on voting for the members who didn't seem to have a secure spot in the lineup. I think this is common for survival shows. In global votes, Jake and Ni-ki never ranked higher than 7th. Jay never ranked higher than 6th other than the time he ranked 11th in the mid-check which bumped him to 3rd because people were panic-voting for him. This is exactly what happened with Jungwon at the finale because he ranked so low by the producers at the very last moment. People panic-voting for these members plus the votes they were already getting from people who always voted for them boosted them a lot. This was reflected in Heeseung, Sunghoon, and Sunoo's ranks even though they consistently ranked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. People neglected to vote for them because they assumed they were safe. It wouldn't be fair to leave Daniel out of the whole discussion so I'll speak my piece here. Daniel was a brilliant contestant. He had so much emotional intelligence that it could easily rival Heeseung's. If you watch his moments back in hindsight, it's full of him encouraging others who were directly competing with him for positions, comforting people who were discouraged, mediating tense situations, and congratulating others' wins as if they were his own. Such a good kid who deserved more. It's rumored that he's debuting next year with Pledis, so he's still under Hybe. It's just a rumor though, so we'll just have to see! Yes. Thank you for reading. lol.

I did not like the final voting system. Agreed - panic voting put long-time top favs in danger of not being included, which is ridiculous.

Thank you so much for doing these reactions and I enjoyed it so much. And then seeing EnHYPEN. in real life, I was am amazed how far they have come since II-Land.
