omg I'm so excited! I can finally follow along with you guys. I feel like something shifted in this season when they started to fight humans not just titans like I think this season has the biggest affect on characters because of new information (like this anime is cool because the more we learn the crazier shit gets) and higher stakes. This season also has my favorite opening (its more mellow and chill which is my style), I listen to it on Spotify regularly. Little detail you guys forgot but questioned (bcs Eren lacked muscle in that one transformation), Titans do not need to eat humans for survival it was mentioned in Season 1 that it's weird that they only hunt humans when they don't need it for nutritional benefit. It's why so many of them have big bellies and can actually regurgitate them. The humans they eat literally just sit in there. About the royal family thing, the king is supposedly "King Fritz" aka the guy on the throne who's coronation was being celebrated. While Hisotria and Eren were being kidnapped, the King and other high officials in the throne room received a message from Lord Reiss (Historia's father) that he successfully kidnapped them so they didn't have to do anything. So throughout the second episode we kind of know that both Lord Reiss and the people at the capital want to kidnap both Eren (obvious reasons) and Historia (bcs in the last season that religious dude (who was killed by the military police in the first 2 episodes) said that she's the one with all the answers). The whole time everyone is wondering "Why does the daughter of some regional lord have the answers to the walls.", until at the end of the episode Hange and Levi torture and trick the military police officers who tells them "the Reiss family is the true royal family" which means that Lord Reiss is the actual king, Historia is the true successor of the throne, and homie on the throne rn is just a decoy. Hopefully this helped understand the situation it's just the info from ep 2 compiled lol. Of course you'll find out why the king is kidnapping them in the future episodes. Also I love how David was like "maybe Mikasa is the main character" because when I first watched this, I watched it with my friend who already finished it and I had a whole conspiracy about how Armin is actually the main character (bcs he's the narrator not Eren) and how Eren is just a central part to Armin's story. It was just for fun, but sometimes the dots do be connecting. (I tend to leave longer comments when I'm excited so i'm not even gonna apologize, I'm sure you guys are used to it).

Season 1 and 2 had different openings as well, but by the same band. For this season, it was by a different band with vocals from another band singer. They used a very famous band and vocalist for this season, although it's not my favorite opening.
