Because it is SM, the competition would be really high before debut since the number of trainees would be high. EXO was called SM's mistake and were ridiculed when they debuted in 2012. Then they became overnight sensation because of 'Growl' in 2013. EXO became famous even outside of kpop circle, entire Korea knew who EXO is. Two membes left in 2014. Kirs left few days before their first concert tour, without informing the members. They had to re-learn all the choreography, re-distribute the lines etc within a week or so. Luahn left couple of months after that. Tao left in 2015. Then came the dating scandal of Beakhyun and then Kai. Some fans were really immature back then. They demanded Beakhyun to leave the group. Facing such highs and lows as a young rookie group probably made them really strong and also grounded in reality. I get a feeling that they don't take their fame too seriously, but they are very serious about their craft. They are really hard working and they don't take everything for granted.

I think many of us will also be busy during the holidays hehe. Hope you have a good time. I love this video. The thing is, I get that some non kpop fans have the manufactured view (I feel like this is more common there as I’ve never heard that insult in my country, most of what I’ve heard is about them being pretty boys) and maybe it’s from seeing groups being made in tv competitions like X Factor or the Got Talent franchise... so they see groups that barely know each other being formed and then a few yrs later they break up and kind of say bad things about each other and act like they were just waiting to go solo... but kpop groups aren’t like that. They train together and gain encouragement and motivation from each other for years as the only people who can understand them are their co-trainees. And they start quite young by their own determination. Lol when I was 12-14 all I ever wanted to do was play, have fun with friends, etc. But they juggled their studies and their added after school classes with being trainees. I wish I was that focused at that age or that I had such a big dream. Plus in the beginning their success was really tied to the success of the group so it’s really like they’re on one boat. Tao isn’t in EXO anymore but he was recently a coach/judge on something like produce 101 but in China, and he talked about how he never envied his members when they had more activities, more attention, more parts because they all believed all of those would help the group and that was the most important. Also, I really like EXO’s view of their jobs and their fame. It’s very common to hear them say they’re doing this because it makes them happy and that they don’t really have much greed for more. Because their trajectory to the top was very fast and I think that affected them. They rarely talk about hoping more people would recognize or acknowledge them, except when they say so in the context of their fans being able to proudly say they’re EXO-Ls. Instead they are more about doing things for their fans who have stood by them through the things that happened because I don’t think they expected to weather the loss of their members this well.

agreed, kpop trainees go into training knowing they will (99% chance) be put in a group. They all become friends more than enemies and basically grow together since they start training SO YOUNG. I think most even prefer being in a group, cause that's your family now. The only thing manufactured is the music, and even then, more idols are writing and producing now. Plus, groups allow solo music, so many idols can be solo AND be in a group. Kpop is quite beautiful in that sense, there's rarely jealousy and drama between groups. Most drama is from the media and fans.

that is why i love EXO. To struggle is just natural whoever you are. I am where I am right now because of them. I am still living because of them. I dont mind spending some money for them because theyve helped me alot.
