GREAT Series Reaction RTR! Every single episode and especially this finale were all so incredibly awesome! The comments both of you made, the appreciation of the writing, the 'It wasn't time that did it' emotional moment, and the appreciation for Joel's complete commitment to save Ellie at all costs were touching and shared so much of yourselves, Like all parents, saving Ellie was the course of action to take. Among non-parents however, it's often a 50/50 split between those siding with Joel and those believing Ellie's life was worth a chance at a possible cure. Those reactors and commentatios see Joel's dilema as a the classic 'trolley problem.' While it technically IS the trolley problem... it's not JUST opting to sacrifice one to save many... rather, it cleverly poses two complicated questions, that when combined, forms a fundamentally unanswerable human-defining paradox: 1. 'Do the needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few, the one?' - and - 2. 'Regarding 'parental love,' what would you do (do too much) to protect your child... in evaluating the worth of YOUR ONE against ANY OTHERS?' Of course the 'trolley' situation in Episode 9 holds many more complications; Marlene's belief in the potential cure over her commitment to Anna... the Firefly doctor whose all-or-nothing impatience at sacrificing his only test subject may, or may not prove the right thing to do... Joel's belief that his second chance would be vindicated only by saving the second daughter that has now graced his life, saving him... and Ellie, whose seemingly the best life's purpose was her own death on that surgical table in Salt Lake... which would likely have been her decision, if she was given the choice - or not. We'll never know. All of which serves to make TLOU the story-telling masterpiece that it is! Again Thank You very much for the great reaction series RTR has made for TLOU!

I loved the opening, I thought it was really well done. Also, that was Ashley Johnson who was the voice of Ellie in the game, now playing Ellie's mom, which I think was great. She was the only voice actor I knew was in the show from the game, before I watched it, because I'm a fan of the actress and knew she played Ellie since the game came out, but I never played the game so I didn't really know anything about the other voice actors. I learned about their roles in the show as it aired and some of them I didn't even know about until after I finished the whole series, like Marlene being played by the same actress as the game. I had complicated feelings about this episode, to say that thousands or millions, however many people are left in the world are less important than one person, is not something I can really get behind, I can't even really get behind killing all the fireflies in the hospital, who are really only trying to save people for one person. However, I have also never been someone who could say we should kill the one person to save everyone else either. Not to mention they were just going to kill her and not even try other things first, why don't we at least try some things before we go straight to killing the only immune person, if your wrong about how to get the cure, then all you've done is killed someone for no reason. Plus, I think they really should have given her a choice, everyone in this episode really took Ellie's choice, her autonomy away from her. I really think both Joel and Marlene should have asked her what she wanted, but neither did because they wouldn't have listened to what she said. If she told Marlene no, Marlene would have killed her anyway, if she told Joel she wanted to do the surgery, Joel would have just killed everyone and took her anyway, which I don't think is right. Especially since we can see throughout this show, how much Ellie want's to be able to save people, to finally be able to help someone not die, to make a difference and both of them took her choice and chance away for that. Anyway, this was a great series and I loved your reactions to it, I look forward to season 2. Also, just to add I loved all the moments with Joel and Ellie in this episode, how hard he was trying to talk to her, to try to see if she was all right, the look on his face when she was laughing, when they found the giraffes and the discussion they had when he told her he tried to kill himself.

Remarkable remarks Jeremy. You've state the dilemma posed by this remarkable series perfectly.
