I actually very much agree with you on this one. I have never loved Dalek stories ( they're just too loud for me lol). I believe, and please some one correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Daleks are contractually obligated to be featured in the show once a season. I love 11's anger at the Daleks though. When he hit that tea tray out of the Daleks ( hands? Whaterver) it shocked me the first time I saw it. The Doctor went from 0 to pissed in no time and it was so surprising. I had never experienced this reaction in a Doctor before and I loved it. Matt Smith does this so well, he is so full of excitement and happiness and then snap he's angry. I also really love the dog-fight with the planes Bracewell had rigged up to fly in space and the Daleks. Just really liked the graphics update in this. And Amy coming in clutch, once more, to save the day is a fun time haha. It really shows her worth, those moments make me think of Martha a bit.

I'm with everyone else here, the Daleks are just too overused and it really makes most of their episodes a dud to me. That being said, credit to them for trying something different with this one. The new Daleks introduced in this episode were supposed to be a big bad reveal and the new look for Daleks moving forward. They BOMBED bigtime in the public perception. Even Mark Gatiss who wrote the episode hated them when he saw them. (Mark Gatiss is Mycroft Holmes in Sherlock by the way) As a Scot myself, it is definitely nice to have a Scottish companion along for the ride. Stephen Moffat is also a Scot, so I suspect he went this route on purpose so he could get some Scottish rhetoric out lol. Talking of Scottish people, the robot man from Paisley, did you recognize him? He's the actor who plays fleabags dad. So the good news is this Dalek episode is rated the worst episode of the season, so everything you get from here on out is considerably better. The next episode is really strong in my opinion so I cannot wait to see your reaction to it.

I believe the contractual obligation is just an urban legend across whodom. At least that's what RTD and Moffat have said publicly, but Who knows for sure (pun intended lol). I guess for context to JRabbit and RJ if they read this, the BBC don't own the rights to the Daleks, their original creator Terry Nation retained the rights (which were passed on to his estate when he died).

The Daleks and the Cybermen are such big parts of the history of Doctor Who, it would be weird if they never showed up again. However, I usually don't love the episodes their a part of, although I still think their better than the 2 part farting Slitheen episodes. I do like some moments of or concepts they try with the Dalek episodes, like the human-Dalek hybrid in Daleks in Manhattan, the fan service of Daleks and Cybermen fighting each other at the end of season 2, some of the discussions with the Doctor in the first episode we met a Dalek in season 1 including that line "you would make a good Dalek" to the Doctor and his reaction, but the episodes often slow to a crawl when we have to listen to all the Dalek explanations about why their doing what their doing. As for this episode, I liked the performance of Matt Smith in this episode a lot and Amy coming through more than once with ideas to save the day. I liked Winston Churchill as well and I found the robot, Paisley interesting and I kind of felt for him and liked the moment went the Doctor and Amy told him to go find the post office and Dorabella. Great reaction, I look forward to the next one.
