I think that I can start to understand this episode a little bit but I'm still not sure as to the why, the why they told it this way. Still, the fact that this is all happening in Jeff's head because he's afraid of something reminds me of probably my favorite season 5 episode and at that I will stop. As for any questions left from Season 4, those will mostly be tied up in a nice little bow in the Season 5 premier. The best thing that the season pilot does it set everything up for the following season, you know exactly where things are headed by the end of the episode. If you're still confused then I might offer my thoughts but watch that first =D (RJ might know what's up with something he guessed ;)) As someone who has a diagnosed mood disorder (and bullied both in academic and professional environments for it), I hated this season because of the way they trivialized all of the 'Changnesia' thing. I mean, I just felt like they insulted an actual health problem and that's a huge trigger for me. Still, I'm glad we're moving on even if the study group might not be the study group with a change in its members

I one hundred percent agree, I do think there was a small drop in quality in this season, but I also think part of the hate of this season is the fact that everyone says its bad and the fact that Harmon is almost deified in his community for this show and Rick and Morty. Dan Harmon is a great writer, and there is something to be said for people other than the creator having some trouble taking the reigns of a show or characters, but it is not as bad as people make it out to be and other people can write well.

Dan Harmon watched season 4 only after they wanted him back. He invited some people over, got really drunk and binged all 13 episodes, and the only redeeming thing he's said about this season is that it was cool that Jeff graduated. He constantly calls season 4 "the gas leak year" and throws plenty of shade throughout season 5. Next episode is basically him trying to fix everything up. You immediately notice that the showrunner is back. I can't wait to see your reactions. I also wanted to add that even if season 4 is my least favorite season, I don't hate it, and it has grew on me after watching it more times. And finally, I've read that Joel McHale (Jeff) was one the biggest reasons NBC brought Harmon back, so lets appreciate his effort.

I guess that's why it's called Repilot ;) For a fun fact: A few months after Community had its puppet episode, Glee also had a puppet episode but that was caused by a gas leak in the choir room where they started hallucinating. but before Community called it the gas leak year

Amen. Changnesia was bad and I think Harmon hated it too, based on what was said on next episode.

Introduction to Finality. I am very happy you all have made it here. As a long time fan of Community this episode gives me a bittersweet feeling. When you love something, you love it through everything. The ups AND downs. I agree with others saying Season 4 isnt terrible, it was just out of character. But sometimes that happens in life. Just like a relationship or friendship, sometimes relationships hit a slump. Maybe a friend is working a job they hate so they may be depressed or irritable or just out of character. That doesn't mean you give up on that friend. It means you hunker down and see it through, because there is always light on the other side. You all summed it up with the Mr Frodo clip at the end. Us Community family have been waiting for you on this side and we are so happy to see you here. Greendale forever. #sixseasonsandamovie

While I acknowledge season 4’s many flaws, I still really enjoy the season. There was no win here. NBC’s insane logic for firing Dan Harmon pretty much kneecapped the show and there really was no good outcome. On top of that Chevy Chase apparently made things very difficult behind the scenes. Chevy saying the N word during a rant in front of the cast and crew before storming off the set became a huge story regarding the show at the time so even during the show’s production things were not going well. I still personally really like season 4 more than the next two seasons. The writing may be better in season 5 and 6 but because of the shift regarding Jeff’s graduation and some cast members leaving like Chevy, the friend dynamic of the study group really doesn’t feel like it’s there anymore. I get that former aspect was necessary in terms of the story and the latter was necessary because of Chevy’s behavior behind the scenes and unpleasant relationship with pretty much everyone aside from Joel McHale, but it just isn’t as fun in my opinion. Again, the writing in those two seasons is clearly better but I still would take a mixed season in terms of writing where the entire cast is still there instead of a good one where half of the cast is pretty much gone and the remaining characters feel more like co-workers than a group of friends. Again, this is just my opinion and I won’t argue with anyone who thinks this season was terrible (including Dan Harmon and the entire cast), but I still enjoyed it overall.

So... I'm one of the judgmental, petty Community fans that loathes the majority of this season. I understand why others might feel differently, because there are still fun moments, and some of the jokes do land. But at the end of the day, season 4 of Community is the show the 1st 3 seasons of Community would make fun of. It's a sitcom. It's easier to digest than the other seasons because it's not as smart as the other seasons. I can sit here and bore the bejeezus out of everyone with a super long comments about all the stuff I felt was underwhelming... but here's my main problem: Community Seasons 1-3 use parody as a way to tell a story about the characters. Community Season 4 uses the characters to do a parody. It feels like really good fanfiction... but the essence of the show, the heart. It's not there.

"We finally figured out a way to make paintball cool again." . . . . . . . . . ...man, fuck you. Sorry, I was going to have a whole thing about how this episode, in theory and in practice, is the absolute fucking worst of this season distilled into 22 minutes, but... yeah, no, I guess I forgot that line, so when I heard it again, I genuinely blacked out with rage. Excuse me while I tear off my shirt and ask HOW ABOSOLUTELY DARE? Now for just a second of clarity before I black out again: I'm seeing a lot of defenders in the comments section, and, again, from the bottom of my heart: good for you. I would never want to take a positive experience away from anyone. You're not wrong for liking a thing, you just like it, and that's fine. I hate it to a point that some might call worrisome, but that shouldn't demand that everyone feel the same way, nor does it make you less of a fan if you enjoyed some of this season or this episode. Just maybe keep all limbs and personal belongings inside the vehicle whenever these writers feel like invoking the paintball episodes and acting like they achieved the same level of success.

Unpopular opinion: I always felt all of the paintball episodes were overhyped and though they are decent episodes were never some of my favorites
