Hope I didn't bore RJ with my routinely long comments (just a little teasing that he yawned when mine was being read ;) not serious). This episode was written by Mindy Kailing so I might be biased when I say it's well written. I love how she included that Kelly-Ryan-Stanley story and I only learned recently that the actor for Stanley wasn't given lines for the smackdown of Ryan, it was improv and came out to a really great scene. "Boy have you lost your mind because I'll help you find it." I think it kind of mirrored her relationship with Jim, in Pam getting along with Jake. Pam has tried to warm up to the other girls (such as the meeting with Jan) but she says that she gets along most with Jim. Likewise, Jim gets along with Kevin's fiancee's daughter who with some deleted scenes is a lot like Pam. There's one scene that was deleted where Pam is attempting to bond with her and says, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" "An artist" "Oh cool. Me too" "You are grown." It's both funny and very very sad. Hope I didn't send RJ to sleep with these comments (another joke) and thanks for putting out another real talk reaction. I definitely suggest liking and subscribing

putting this as a reply since I didn't want my comment to be aggressively long. You don't have to read it at the intro but just some introspection for anyone who might want to read it And now to the thing with Michael I think that he just suffers from a lot of social insecurities and a lack of social skills. Michael gets moody when people don't pay attention to him or he feels that they don;t like him or are picking on him and he's kind of hopeless at picking up social cues. This must have meant that if he was that lonely as a child (who wants to see kids as their best friends (no offense to anyone)) he places a lot of values on the friends that he does have and if kids can be friends so can his subordinates. He gets along really well with Packer because Packer is the 'cool guy' who allows Michael to tag along with him but Packer probably doesn't care in the same way about Michael. (Michael already said that Packer found twins and then nailed them both whilst he ditched Micahel) but Michael loves any attention from the man. Michael sees Jim as the cool guy and so wants to spend time with him, he also sees Ryan as being antoher male who ranks cooler than him. I think this is why he distorts his loneliness and want for a friend into this over-passionate relationship with Ryan. (kind of like a mirror to Kelly). Michael also wants Jan to be his grilfriend and can't see the situation in the way that it really is because he's attached so much happiness onto what he means to other people that he can't even begin to think of being happy for himself and does things like want Devin to be his friend after he was fired and playing the tape of Jan saying "I missed you" during all of those performance evaluations. In short, and yes this is much shorter than I could write for, Michael wants friends but hasn't had the development of the social skills to do it well. However, there is some happiness for him in the future because there are always others who share your same type of humor and want to be friends with you for you.

I love the creepy German children's book that Dwight reads in this one, because my grandmother had a couple of those dark kids' books from the early 20th century at her house when I was growing up. The most disturbing was the Little Orphan Annie poem written in 1885, which told about misbehaved children who suffered terrible fates as a result of their misdeeds. Every verse of the poem ended with, "And the goblins will get you if you don't watch out!" Like Willy Wonka for Victorian era kids. According to Wikipedia this poem somehow eventually morphed into the Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow version of Annie that we all were forced to sing from at some point in childhood. But enough tangential trivia. I actually liked this episode more than a lot of the earlier season ones. I also have a weird gut feeling that in real life, Steve Carrell is AMAZING with kids. Fun reaction! See you in the next one.

I'm going to take RJ's approach and say in my unlicensed opinion Michale's loneliness stems from his upbringing and I would love to see his parents so we can properly dissect his childhood. Also that TV show answer Michael gave was so sad and depressing I'm surprised they even aired it to children. Best part of this episode was once again Dwight and Angela Romance and I love how Angela keeps revealing her intentions to Dwight during office hours and I especially love her facial expressions and how quickly they change from moment to moment, Another highlight of mine was Kelly stitching up Ryan OMG that was brutal to watch, also he needs to break up with her because she has all the potential to be the Mona Lisa from the Parks & Rec, Can't wait for the next one.

not trying to spoil anything but I feel I need to stand up for my girl here. Kelly is more like one of those puppy dogs that follow you around and whine a lot but she's nothing like Mona Lisa from Parks. To put it simply Kelly loves romantic comedies, Twilight books, and Glee but she'd never come at you with a screwdriver or set things on fire. I'd think more Miss Piggy and Kermit.
