This is probably one of my favorite episodes from season 1. Lots of drama and humor too. I really appreciated them showing us what it's like for Jason to just get ready for the day. I think a huge part of him taking it all so well (with only little blowups like with his Mom) is because of Herc's influence. I hated him at first but his energy and no bs attitude was really what Jason needed to get through the worst parts of his adjustment. Lyla, otoh, continues to be the opposite. I find her to be a better character later but right now, even her voice is grating to me. Man, what about Matt isn't heartbreaking? I've never seen a character I've wanted to hug more. The sweetest, goodest kid ever. That huge smile on his face when he was introducing his dad to Coach Taylor was so adorable. But then the immediate record scratch when his dad just could not give a compliment to his own son if his life depended on it. Such a dick. And it makes so much sense that Matt is so pissed off about moving to Oklahoma. He's losing not just his Grandma, but also the Taylors who have been the closest thing to a support system he's had in a while. And Landry too, despite all his terrible advice to Matt lol. Speaking of Landry, to this day this Riggins-Landry pairing remains one of the highlights of the show to me. Peak comedy double act. Love Tim actually showing appreciation for what Landry did by showing up to his Crucifictorius gig. The bar being pretty much empty got such a laugh out of me. (Apparently Christian rock bands are a thing so I guess that's what Landry's band is and why his band names are all religious themed?) Also, I'm with RJ. I'm still not convinced Tim can read. Finally, shoutout to Tami and Eric Taylor for looking out for the kids this whole episode. Tami's always right, of course, and I appreciate that Coach always listens to her when she calls him out. He's a good man who wants to do right by the kids he's in charge of but he gets swept up in the football stuff too. Tami is exactly what this town needs -- she'll always remind them that football isn't everything and that these kids need to be treated like kids. Love their chemistry. They really feel like a genuine married couple, even their arguments sound so natural lol.
