we only have so many precious days on our finite time here on earth, and yet i chose to spend mine drawing gay marsupials, oy

Concept art! Fiddled with Logan's design and toned down his eye-searingly saturated color palette. Also made him and Bruce better resemble their species (red kangaroo and western brush wallaby, respectively)

idk if this is canon, for now i'm just toying with the idea. It's possible that some time ago, before Bruce met Sunny, he might've maybe had a thing with his neighbor, Logan. Maybe. Bruce will deny it if you ask.

Logan feels like home to Bruce. This isn't a good thing. Back in DownUndah, Bruce was pretty used to being pushed around by larger animals (kangaroos, dingoes, emus, etc), so meeting yet another smarmy jock kangaroo felt deeply familiar and unpleasant. Bruce does not like Logan. Has not liked him since day one, when the roo saw Bruce struggling with a heavy moving box and had the nerve to help, lifting the box and Bruce. Bloody show-off.

And yet.....Logan feels like home to Bruce. That time long ago, before his family was fractured forever, back when he still had a home- dingy though it was- rather than a cramped apartment with nothing but plants for company. Bruce is a pretty love-starved individual....and Logan has affection in spades. Even if it comes in the form of teasing and shoulder punches, it's familiar to Bruce. It's something. Bruce finds himself leaning into it. Sometimes it's hard to hate Logan. For all his never-ending chatter about sports and ladies and protein shakes, sometimes his presence is.....not entirely groan-inducing. One time, he even got Bruce to laugh. One night, when Logan is being slightly bearable, Bruce awkwardly makes a  move on a whim- and while Logan is very surprised, he's also delighted (and smug, so SMUG, urgghhhadsjsd Bruce regrets this already).

Except it kinda....keeps....happening. In their private moments, Logan gives Bruce a taste of what it's like to be in control, to be the dominant animal for once- and it's frustratingly addictive. Bruce tries to focus on his studies, but Logan keeps popping up, daring to bring Bruce soup when he's sick, or insisting on a (horrible) action movie night, or just wiggling Bruce's ears in the way he knows irritates the wallaby. Deep down Logan quite loves to feel needed, so he resolves to be there for Bruce in whatever capacity necessary, be it dropping off groceries whenever he senses Bruce is depressed, or entertaining the odd late night hookup. When Logan shifts from acting less like an annoying neighbor and more like, well- a boyfriend, Bruce starts to panic. The pest is a near-constant presence in Bruce's life now, tearing Bruce away from his research, being physically affectionate with Bruce in public (when did Logan assume that was allowed?? Doesn't he know how embarrassing their size difference is? Doesn't he know how small he makes Bruce feel?). It's suffocating, and what's more, it's frightening- Bruce knows more than anyone that letting people get close is a recipe for heartbreak. So one day, when Logan has the nerve to pull Bruce into a hug- he erupts. Whatever they had- whatever Logan thinks they were- is over. Done. Finished. Get. Lost.

Bruce hates that Logan has the audacity to look crushed, as though it weren't him that orchestrated this absurd game of pretend in the first place. Did he think they'd get married and live happily ever after? No, Logan should've understood this for what it was. Two lonely assholes using each other to feel a little less lonely. That's all it ever was.

Logan leaves, and he and Bruce don't speak for a long, long time.

But. Well....Logan still cares about that lonely little wallaby, he can't help it. Nowadays, Logan quite enjoys openly antagonizing Bruce, and sometimes it's just a bit apparent that Logan is a petty, jilted ex. But underneath his attitude is a note of genuine fondness and concern. Despite everything, Logan still wants Bruce to find happiness. He still wants to be Bruce's friend. And deep down-way deep down, under the gnarled barbed wire that fences in his heart- Bruce wants to be Logan's friend too.

tldr: logan is a jerk to bruce, but bruce was a jerk first
