I'd noped out of this show on my original watch after season 3 because I was so mad about Sybil and Matthew, so season 4 onwards I've been watching for the first time with you. Much more enjoyable, I have to say. This was a fun ride! And now you're finally on only two shows per night :)

The video stops before the end of the movie! I didn't like this one as much as the first, just because it tried to do too much. There was at least twelve hours of plot crammed into two hours of movie and it did a disservice to quite a bit of it. We get Cora's health scare that came and went in a flash, a thirty-second conversation to settle that Mrs. Pattmore and Mr. Mason are going to get married, and Thomas abandoning his whole life after a couple of vague conversations with a movie actor. I do like Guy and I thought he had good chemistry with Thomas, but there should have been at least a *little* more than veiled hints that he was offering more than a job. And I was disappointed that Mary & Henry were left kind of up in the air. This show has always been good at tying up loose ends and to leave Mary in an unhappy marriage seems kind of weak. As for Miss Dalgliesh, as soon as she spent the first couple of scenes in silence, I had the instant thought of "Lena Lamont." I don't know if you've ever seen Singing in the Rain, but the whole plot centers around silent film stars transitioning to talkies, and the lovely, refined leading lady has a screechy voice with a working class accent and therefore needs someone to dub her voice. Another movie with Carson showing no signs of tremors in his hands. Speaking of Carson, it was cute to see him do a scene with his actual wife and have the French hat seller think they were a couple. And in other real-life trivia, Edith was pregnant for the filming of this. With Andy's baby. There actually is more Downton in the works,, although filming hasn't begun. I believe it's returning for another season on the small screen. It will be a very different show without the Dowager Lady Grantham.
