ahhh! this was SUCH a fun react! always down for a destiel retrospective and others thoughts about so many amazing moments!! the MIX TAPE!! jensens face at cas's pyre ?!?! id rather have you, cursed or not! season 8?! i will also ship them forever, canon be damned lol. THE tv relationship of all time for me.

I believe Sam actually was exclusively talking to Asmodeus as cas, every episode during that time would have dean asking Sam if he has talked to cas or Sam saying he talked to cas but never dean, however dean apologizes to cas saying WE should've known which could mean he also talked to him or just usual dean blaming himself for stuff he didn't do, loved your reaction to this so much 🥺 that monologue at the beginning is a track on a Lana del Rey album, all her songs can fit destiel, same with t swift It's interesting that you said that every 4 seasons we get a destiel season coz if you think about it everytime supernatural was in a transition period they could rely on destiel to keep fans interested, season 4 was a transition period after the writers strike and taking the show to new level not sure how it would be received, season 8 a transition period from sera gamble era to carver era, season 12, a transition period from carver era to dabb era, even season 6 which is a transition period from kripke era to sera gamble era was heavy with destiel. I'm actually one of those fans who will forever be mad that dean's "i love you" got removed, not just because dean needed to say it out loud for himself but also cas deserved to know that he was loved by the one person who matters the most to him, he deserved to hear that!! So agree to disagree with Bob (and many other fans) on that one

That's a very good point! If Sam was only speaking to "Cas," then that makes a ton of sense why Dean wouldn't have known - because Sam just doesn't know him like Dean does. He wouldn't be able to pick up on anything weird - or, more specifically, what counts as weird for Cas lol For me, though, "I need you" made more sense for Dean just because he isn't in the habit of saying "I love you" to anybody but actual blood family - in the hunter world, it means a lot to 'need' someone, but for Dean specifically, it's a really big thing to admit. Because he was taught from the time he was 4 years old that his worth can only be found in the protection and safety he provides for others, Sam primarily but then literally everybody else on the planet, and *then* Dean Winchester and there will be nooo deviating from that process, like ever. To the point where he keeps trying to find ways (in s8) to blame himself for *Cas* deciding to stay in Purgatory. No matter which way he turned or how much Cas tried to convince him, Dean just *knew* that it was his fault. So for him to not just want Cas, but need Cas, and tell him that out loud? That was a big, big step for Dean as a character. "I love you" is nice - very nice! - but it doesn't come anywhere close to what these two actually mean to each other. "Need" is closer, but still not quite right, imho.

Was it Bob..? Not that Bob wouldn't have had the final say, because he does. So in that respect, yes. Bob would be the one to make the decision and take the subsequent blame as well. That said, I thought it was Jensen who had an issue with it. Could have sworn there was a con where he discussed that the issue was because Dean was not one to say those words - and if he was going to do it, it would be to his brother Sam, first. Might be something we should look up and get the real info though. The fandom lore is deeper and more complicated than the actual lore IN the show. LOL.

Yeah, see, what I recall very clearly is Jensen talking about that moment with the trenchcoat and iirc it was a very early JIB, where he was talking about that moment with Misha there and basically said they re-wrote the dialogue on the day because Sera had written it too 'girly'. That it was a whole bunch of stuff that two men wouldn't say to each other, essentially (Jensen said alllllllll of this, btw, Misha stayed silent during his entire response as far as I can recall). And Jensen has *tried* to blame the trenchcoat pick-up on Sera's writing, but one of TPTB confirmed Jensen chose to do that on the day. Which - when you consider a bit of cut dialogue that was shot and used in a promo ("part of me always believed you'd come back") but *nowhere* in the actual aired episode, uhhh yeah - I can see why Jensen would want to re-write something that sounded like that, coming out of Dean Winchester's mouth, yeah. It sounds more like an outtake from Love, Actually or something, not Supernatural lol

It's just dripping from the screen and on one level I want to smack the writers silly because they are absolutely doing it on purpose to bait the shippers without having the guts to make it canon but on all other levels I absolutely love it. I loved this reaction, so thank you, Hasnaa and Shelley ... We as fans had discussed to death that 'I love you' line from Goodbye Stranger scene that was taken out and replaced, so this time I want to focus on a different scene here ... which is the Stuck in the Middle with you scene/episode, written by Davy Perez and directed by Richard Speight, Jr. When they announced at SDCC that they were going with a Reservoir Dogs homage, I watched that movie and then also found a thorough review of the movie online as per the attached link. http://cinemalogue.com/2012/10/23/reservoir-dogs-retro/ ... I immediately knew who Dean and Cas were paralleled to in that particular movie after seeing that episode ... It was a very interesting review as I am sure Davy Perez as a TV writer, would have been well aware of and known about that particular takeaway which as an audience I myself definitely agreed with: their movie characters' counterparts were named Mr. White and Mr. Orange - Dean was Mr. White and Cas was Mr.Orange. It was very obvious to me that both Mr. White and Mr. Orange had a very close and very affectionate relationship and were fond of each other and had deep feelings for each other by how they interacted throughout that movie, especially when Mr. Orange was fatally wounded. ... for which then I took that Cas saying the first I love you cannot be denied that he aimed it at Dean if we go by that movie ... I mean come on, TPTB told people that they going to more or less mirror that movie and positioning our characters in the exact same situation ... how are we supposed to interpret it huh ?! ... Davy then went on record during that time when the episode aired in an interview and said that he meant it as familial too, just like Robbie who we've known now was them toeing the network line in my opinion. Robbie now has gone on record that he tried to write romance in Supernatural but was stonewalled, and Davy subtweeted/shaded someone (from my takeaway) on Twitter much much later (if I am not misremembering, it was during that aftermath of Jessica Mason's article in S14 - for which she referenced that particular scene in the Stuck episode to make her point on tumblr) ... again from my take, Davy tweets were then alluding to a little bit differently than what he formerly said on the official channel - in short telling us to interpret however we want from that scene imo. ... Oh and that tape from The Future, Bobo Berens specifically wrote in the script as MIXED TAPE - using all capital letters, to me signifying that it was not to be interpreted as a normalized tape. I love that in the "another love" edit after dean says "i don't matter" the text on the screen says "you mattered to him" followed by loads of scenes demonstrating just how much dean matters to cas 🥺, i also love the parallel between Sam dragging dean away from cas in the au universe and dean dragging Sam away from Jessica's burning body on the pilot

I don't ship cas and Dean but I am a sucker for good parallels and the show definitely writes them in a shippy way. Especially that I love you scene in 12x12. Those cuts are very intentional.
