Good reaction, Shelley, and nice episode too ... more focussing on Donna right after the events of Wayward Sisters. Yeah, we also thought that this episode was supposed to be the setup for Donna to join in the spinoff series - her breakup with Doug was the impetus maybe, for her to move to Sioux Falls to join Jody and the rest of the wayward girls. I would like to circle back to Patience and address her reasons for joining the group since before this I can't as it would kinda be very spoilery. So, speculation and theory times for the missed spinoff, Wayward Sisters *sobs* and potential plot arc in the reply below:

Many of us fans at that time, tried to rationalize why that callback for Missouri in 13x03 Patience and then killing the character off other than what Shelley had said - for literary symmetry ... because that was kinda too cheap a motive, and they had been there and done that so many times before ... In my opinion, I felt that Patience needed a very big push to go to Jody for Wayward Sisters. Just having a fight with her father for using her abilities and continuing being a psychic, was not that big of a motivation for her to leave him AND remained with Jody after. They did show her going back to him before everything went pear-shaped in 13x10, but not afterward ... she could still return back. For me, it was sort of implied that Missouri would still stay in contact with Patience from the afterlife, wasn’t it? Especially when the camera lingered on the flashback scene specifically when she gave that pin to Young Patience and also again on the pin when Patience was packing in 13x03. The pin was the focus ... As per standard Supernatural origin story, a loved one dies. So the show brought back the previous role that has that kinda weight and gravitas for Patience's backstory. From the show's extensive side characters and also from the story/show's perspective, Missouri had what it takes so she was brought back. I don’t have to like that they killed her but I understand their motive. And it also kind of implied that like Jack, Patience also was a powerful being but couldn't control that power yet. So by having Missouri come back to Patience after her death, via her visions or the pin maybe, she would have that kind of resource to harness her ability and we could have seen how this played out in the supposed spinoff and Missouri might have a bigger role to play ... This would then be the reason for Patience not returning back to her father's home considering his attitude toward both of them using their psychic abilities ...

Not the best episode, but always great to see Donna. I also love seeing Dean and Donna together.

My understanding is that this episode and the next should have been switched. But network or somebody decided to go with this order to continue for momentum from Wayward Sisters right to the next story with Donna. If you watch in the original order, Sam's opening in this episode makes more sense. <3
