your dog was trying to warn you all to turn back, this episode is gonna be horrific. it's still one of the most messed up and chilling/gross things I've seen on tv. "sometimes change is good" understatement of the new year lol thematically simple (and the X-files has done similar stuff before) but still so relevant: all these imagined great "American" small town spaces, the great old age, and the romanticized representations like Mayberry(Andy Griffith show) where never that great; they hide dark secrets which modern life will bring to light. Even cherished values like Home and family (family values was such a 90's catch phrase) can be perverted and become horrific. This episode juxtapositioned so many idyllic American images: sandlot baseball, the classic Cadillac, the upbeat oldie music with stuff like brutal violence and "the War of Northern Aggression." Initially the episode is mostly gross and horrifying, on rewatches I really appreciate how well done the visual storytelling direction is. Often times the X-files seems scared of modern change but here it says yes sometimes CHANGE IS GOOD!
