I'm really glad you're liking this show so far. It's one of my absolute favorites along with Supernatural, and I'm really glad to be able to see you discover it for the first time. I see that you're a little puzzled by the idea of marriage between relatives, but at the time it was a pretty common practice. Moreover, before the previous heir died on the Titanic, Mary was supposed to be engaged to him, and he was a way closer relation than Matthew is. At the time it wasn't strange at all to marry one's own cousins, especially among the aristocracy where many families end up being related to each other one way or another.

Another great episode, another great reaction. Yes, Grantham really understands the idea that he's a steward to the estate, he has to take care of it, and that includes all the people on it. He does try very hard to be fair. I loved his championing of Carson and of Mrs. Crawley!
