This reaction was a joy to watch. I’m glad you could laugh at the cheese and camp (there is a lot) and also enjoy the story and character introductions. That intro is so 90’s. Not me screaming along “We were BORN to be PRIncesssss of the UNIverssee” This was network TV in syndication, it was wildin sometimes back then for the international audience. You probably know the villain from this episode from Night Court, he was a regular and hilarious there too. There was a whole group of shows that combined really good storytelling with cheese/camp around this time (Hercules/Xena/Highlander/Nikita(97)) that I still love. Highlander is my fav of that group. It has the one thing I need in long TV shows: charm. And the stuff all good shows need: interesting story, characters and themes. It’s no Buffy or Xfiles but what is. You picked up on the car!! Yes very reminiscent of Supernatural and Angel. Angel “borrowed” a lot from this show, the jacket from the intro here and car being the most obvious. They really did a flashback zooming into Duncan’s eyes twice, not trusting we would understand he was remembering without literally zooming into his brain. The storytelling is very heavy-handed in the pilot, but they did a pretty good job with a lot of info dumping I thought. I love Tessa too, she really wears her heart of her sleeve and expresses what’s on her mind. Richie (the kid) is the audience stand in this episode, this stuff be crazy and ridiculous. Adrian Paul(Duncan) is gorgeous, like someone out of a romantic swashbuckling romance novel (in fact the character is). Tessa: “what’s gonna happen later tonight” Shelley: “Your gonna bang again” lol it’s like you’ve seen this show before. “What was on their asses? Was that fashion?” this killed me. Thought totally unimportant, just FYI I am a guy :) I always forget my name by itself can be misleading. Definitely sticking with this show as my request going forward, this was just too much fun.

omg yes!! night court is what i know him from! i used to watch it with my grandparents lol. xena is one of my shows i watched growing up (hercules too a bit), and they definitely have a similar vibe. thanks again, shashank!

Being an ENORMOUS fan of the group Queen, that was reason enough for me to hit the theater when the original movie Highlander came out. They did the soundtrack. The film featured Sean Connery and Christopher Lambert (who played Conner in both movie and the tv pilot). Hearing Queen's music tonight on the pilot made my heart thump a bit and forgive some weak acting that did steadily improve and the show accrued quite a staunch fan base. I remember all those multi media cons of the 90's so fondly and there was some really beautiful fan art inspired by Highlander. I still have a few pieces.

You are going to have this as your monthly request going forward?! Ooh I am excited to relive some of this show. I had a blast watching this episode! If I get too lazy to find Supernatural-related videos to submit for my request, I now know I can always just ask for another episode of Highlander. (Lol it would take 11 years to finish the series doing one episode a month 😂...I had to look it up because I didn’t remember how many seasons the show had and how long we have to wait for key character introductions). Thanks for requesting this. It made my Friday fun!

☑️ Romance novel hair ☑️ Swashbuckling romance ☑️ sword fights to the death Cheesy/campy but oh so fun. Yeah, wish we could get Jensen Ackles level acting, but what you gonna do? Viewing one episode per month, we have a ways to wait for some key character introductions. It will be interesting to see how this first season goes. My recollection is almost nil. Lol, I literally have a type...tall dark and handsome with heavy souls destined to fight every day to save the world...Kyle Reese in Terminator, Duncan MacLeod, Angel, but they were just all placeholders in my heart for Mr. Dean Winchester.

Also wow, the pilot was directed by one of Supernatural’s favorite directors, Tom Wright. But don’t go looking him up, Shelley. He doesn’t start to direct Supernatural until later in season 7. Seeing this Highlander pilot, there is a unique camera shot he does which he utilizes in his first Supernatural episode. I will try to remember to mention it when it comes around.

@AdoptDontShopPets: Glad you enjoyed the reaction too! I’m gonna keep this as my request going forward but I’m not thinking about anything as ambitious as the whole show. Having a new highlander episode reaction to look forward to is just fun, that’s about as deep as it goes. But if you ever feel like requesting an episode too that would be awesome.

Slane was Bull from Night Court. Hope you continue watching it, the first season was good, Band of Brothers really sticks out. 3rd and 4th seasons are the best.
