I don't believe this is a spoiler but if you recall in season 1 Sam's powers started with dreams that came true bc Yellow Eyes was "back" but little Sammy didn't have powers until then also if you thought this episode was good just wait for the rest of season 5 and the entire series!!👌😎

Man if you thought this was portraying grey areas, you're going to be super conflicted through the series! After this reaction, I can't wait to see how you react to a certain character in the next season. Also, this season gets amazing towards the end.

This is the episode that I began to hate Castiel. Sam was never, ever told the truth. Not by the Angels nor by Chuck nor by the demons. Sure Dean told him it was wrong, but that was his opinion it wasn't based on real knowledge just a gut feeling. In fact Sam could have done everything the same, and just did it at a different time or location and eons old evil demon is dead, and no apocalypse. Castiel knows he wasn't told as he was one of the ones who lied to him, and even when he was aware of the truth didn't tell him, but freed him on his merry way. Castiel gets a pass for lying early as he didn't know the truth, and even gets a bit of pass for lying when he knew the truth because he was basically brainwashed for eons that heaven must be right. But at this point, he knows that's crap and he had the nerve to throw this in Sam's face, when it wasn't true at all. Thats emotional absue on a near cosmic scale. And while I can understand Sam not throwing it Castiel's face, as he does blame himself. Dean also knows this is utter bullshit (though I don't know if Dean or Sam is aware that Castiel is the one who released Sam). Dean should have told him off or thrown a punch. God I hate him.

I would like to say a few words in favor of Castiel and why he did what he did in this episode. Undoubtedly trying to kill the kid wasn't the right way to go, but at the same time it was the one that made more sense for his character at the moment. Castiel has been an angel since was created eons ago, and for his entire existence he only knew one thing: the way of life that has been wired into him. Angels don't think, they follow orders. He's new to the entire process of making his own decisions, and he's still just barely beginning to develop a conscience. He still can't really distinguish what's right from what's wrong according to humans, because he's only used to what's right or wrong according to angels, that definitely isn't the same thing. So when he's faced with a difficult situation he simply goes back to what he knows. As an angel, he knows that demons are evil, so the spawn of a demon must be killed because all evil needs to be exterminated. I don't think that killing the kid was the right decision, but I totally get why Castiel would think that it was. I loved your reaction though, and I can't believe that I'm just one episode away from being caught up!

Ellen while I hate Castiel in this episode (and its something that would take me a considerable amount of time to ever forgive if this happened in real life), it has absolutely nothing to do with him thinking the child must be destroyed. That's a reasonable and logical conclusion. While people might have moral issues with it, it's absolutely an utterly rational choice.
