There's no Star Wars this November - no movies, no shows, nothing, and if The Mouse won't step up, I will. Good lord this one was a pain to get done as you might have guessed with this one taking a little longer than usual. There's a lot of copyrighted music in this game. None of it got claimed in my test uploads but the midi version of the Star Wars theme that was originally running at the beginning did.

I didn't WANT to wait 2 years to do the sequel to Dark Forces, but time whooshes by sometimes when you're on the YouTube Hamster Wheel, pleasing the algorithm, with your hands and your mouth, sexually. I never really got into this game in particular. I know it has its fans and I know that it is a product of its time.  It was impressive in 1997! Getting it running in 2020 and making sure my "fixes" weren't altering the experience too much was a fun time. It's far from the worst or most frustrating game I've ever played. Please leave your comments about the pronunciation of "Nar Shadaa" or "Grans" or "Trandoshans" below. Same with the ones about The Force Engine becoming playable and cool.

Or if you want one of those fancy colored names that everyone gets now if they want. The credits in the video are usually a couple of days behind the actual patron list.

Oh boy, I played this game to death as a kid. It is weird as fuck, you're right, but I loved it despite of its many faults. It really caught my imagination as a wee Star Wars fan, pre Phantom Menace. Definitely still part of the Lucasarts golden age.

Man I've been waiting for this one. Too bad trying to run the game is super janky

Love the Jedi Knight games, one of the first PC games I completed when I was younger was Jedi Academy!

I haven’t thought about Outlaws in years… so when Outlaws Civvie?

Anonymous

Played this for the first time a few years back. Never thought it measured up to Raven’s entries in the series, but I’m glad to see another Dark Forces video nonetheless!

J3V1L

HA HA, YES!

I think what I remember most about this game was ignoring the lightsaber and just blowing up every stormtrooper with a rocket launcher, also the dark jedi enemies always felt waaaay too tanky.

I would love to see an Outlaws episode. I played the shareware level a bit as a kid and just recently completed an actual playthrough of the main story and I thought it was great, if just a little long.

This is the game I used to get my parents to upgrade our OS from Windows 3.1 to Windows 98. Also, those little lightsaber training droids do show up in Morgan Katarn's workshop, but only if you hit a switch to activate them. Also, it's pronounced "Nar Shadaa" and "Grans". Come on, Civvie, you can look up Pic's full name but you can't look up how to pronounce the fake words correctly?

Maktaka

I don't know how the game expects you to know this, but Maw does actually have legs in that opening cutscene. Rahn bisects him in that opening cutscene fight. But they don't show his legs in that entire scene or suggest the blow that struck him down also cut him in half, so how would you know that without reading the novelization?

civvie11

I was looking through all the previous Maw cutscenes looking for legs and I had no idea this happened.

Was Sam and Max: hit the road that popular at the time? I see it referenced in a bunch of other Lucusarts games, I thought Monkey Island was more successful. guess I thought wrong.

Duuuuuude, I've been waiting for an 'Outlaws' reference! I'm sure it's probably a long shot, but man, it sure would be awesome for a video on that game. That was another one of my favorite shooters growing up.

Silentphil9

Civvie's right. Jedi Knight 2 is better. Fight me.

Fear the beard.

Merjia

Fun fact I grew a beard while watching this. I can’t even grow a beard. That’s just the power of Almighty Katarn.

Anonymous

Very nice reference about indiscriminately using Max. Man, what I wouldn't give for you to do an episode on Sam & Max Hit the Road, or even a retrospective on the LucasArts point-and-clicks from that era.

Brian Rich

The jump-bouncing!!! CV-11 you bastard! I had freaking REPRESSED those memories!!

i can't believe civvie reviewed cruelty squad again

Probably out of spite, because the train level is better than the blood one.

Yeah. this game was my childhood. I was a little scumbag, so I beat the game using cheat codes, and I spent/wasted a lot of my youth in multiplayer using Microsoft's online Matchmaking. I even downloaded so many character skins and level mods I bricked my Windows 95 PC.
