EDIT: After some feedback and some editing glitches, I've uploaded a new version of the video. It's slightly shorter, fixes some editing glitches, and removes a few Ramsay clips that weren't necessary. I wasn't going to remove them at first to avoid going too far and George Lucas-ing the thing, but I don't think it hurts.

Three years.

It's been three years since I made those Blood 2 videos. I had fewer than 10 subs. At the time, the DNA of the show relied on me talking about games that, I assumed, nobody cared about. The retro FPS revival barely existed. I'm not even sure the first episode of DUSK was out yet in July of 2017.

It was really, really weird to watch one of the old videos so thoroughly, and while it wasn't as painful as I expected, so many things seemed off. I didn't want to George Lucas it, so only a few things were dramatically changed. I haven't had the game footage that was used to make the video since 2017, so all of the footage here is from the original exports. I did have everything else besides the game footage, including the original project files, graphics, and sounds. In fact, the bad editing of the original helped a lot when making this because all of the sound and video was haphazardly thrown together without proper mixing, so game audio was completely isolated. But enough technical bullshit, let's get down to what's changed:

1. The voiceover has been completely re-recorded because the old one is trash and I couldn't even begin to fix it. This has caused the pacing to be slightly faster.

 2. Editing glitches here and there were removed. Bad cuts, one-or-two-frame overlaps that I didn't notice at the time for some reason.

3. The big one: Audio has been completely re-balanced and re-tuned. I didn't have the game footage, but everything else from the video was in the project folder, so I was able to adjust every sound individually.

4. Old, crispy DOS Blood footage has been re-recorded and replaced. There weren't any Blood source ports when this video was first made.

5. The three parts are all smashed together and introduced with title cards matching the ones from Part 3, except slightly brighter to make them clearer.

6. The "In The Mouth of Madness" intro from the beginning of Part II was moved to the very beginning of the video and movie footage was replaced with HD footage. In general, most of the movie clips were replaced with HD footage when available.

7. All the "X minutes later" cards were re-done to be like the new ones because people had told me that the rainbow colored backdrop hurt their eyes, which is fair.

8. Other miscellaneous improvements - stuff like adding a subtitle during one of Caleb's quieter, hard to hear lines in the original Blood footage.

This was kind of an important video for the channel because of how many running gags started here. Obviously, Gordon Ramsay, purposefully used to such excess that it would justify Civvie getting irradiated in Part 3. I didn't even want to bring it back after this video, and it wasn't until about six months later that I'd throw it into the Hunt Down the Freeman video, which I hoped would get some exposure because of how recent a controversy that game was. (It did!)

Oh, and Elevator Trouble - named for a Rise of the Triad level, but it would make a return in the Shogo video (Further Elevator Trouble), Pro Nukem 3D: Lunar Apocalypse (Elevator Trouble: The Revenge), The ROTT video (Elevator Trouble Origins), and Daikatana (Bride of Elevator Trouble). Malfunctioning elevators come up a lot and I might have forgotten one.

I want to periodically remaster older videos, and thankfully this one was the longest and most difficult to do - I think I actually still have the game footage for Operation Bodycount - and something about having a fully remastered version of the Capstone Tetraology seems appropriate, though I'd absolutely lose the bit where I didn't realize there was a screen wipe key.

Oh, yeah, and the next video is a descent into Quake 2, which will probably be out sometime next week while I work out how to make Quake 2 less boring. I have a decent amount of that video edited already. And after that is some DOS trash that was brought to my attention by a patron after the last video. It is so very special. It's hard to top trash like Island Peril, and it may never happen, but I must try.

Where can we see the original version? IDGAF if it's shitty, I want this.

That's crazy, I thought you must have had a bunch of subs by that time as it seemed pretty well done by the time I started watching, the sound mixing wasn't great but those videos were excellent! I wish YouTube had a "number of subs on release counter and a timeline of views. It would be interesting info to see. Also, Obligatory Zeno Clash when Civvie?

Quake 2 next? Hell yeah

Awesome, this has always been one of my favorite videos, even though the quality was much lower than others that would come later. Also, do you think that there will ever be a video on American McGee's Scrapland? I find that Scrapland tends to get forgotten because it isn't as bad as Bad Day LA, and it didn't develop a cult following like Alice, but I enjoyed it (mostly). I played it as a kid, and I liked it, but I wouldn't call it a good game these days. Even when I was a kid, I could tell that it didn't feel good to play, the story sucked, and the voice acting was very hit-or-miss. Still, it was so much fun to mess around in that open-world. I'd spend hours just flying my spaceship around and goofing around. Plus, there are some scenes in the game that still give me chills. The Archbishop's death scene is incredibly haunting.

Meh, I *still* like this game.

Mario_bland

I'm glad you saved your footage in.... fucking raw!

throwback thursday three days early, lets go baby

Christopher French

Having rewatched, I have 3 minor little things I noticed that may require your attention: 5:07 "what's in the bowl bitch" appears before it's supposed to? 52:44 - 52:59 No video, just voiceover 1:06:41 The scrolling on this section seems a little off. Definitely shook me up visually.

The fast forward section Ramsey gag had me crying. Excellent stuff, always look forward to your content.

Civvie keeps promoting good games anytime… Blood 2 on the other hand… what it could have been, that's the idea here.

Was gonna report 52:44 - 52:59 as well, but Christopher French beat me to it.

civvie11

I discovered the first two, the third is from the ending narration bit which might be slightly off. I'm hoping to get another one up tomorrow to fix some things

civvie11

Yeah I found that a little while ago. Sometimes rogue keystrokes in premiere will erase whole clips from existence. Working on another version to upload

sevrl bats

I put up with em, but the audio balancing on the originals truly was rough! glad to see it get the cleanup it deserves!

I was just watching the original 3 last night while in bed thinking "man, I wonder if Civvie will one day re upload these with better sound mixing. Its such a pain in the ass finding the right volume to fall asleep to." and here it is! Thanks Civvie! Also HDtF was the vid that led me to you so good on ya!

Whenever you want to cover an adventure game again, this’d be a good candidate: https://youtu.be/Fk1Oepek2Oc It’s definitely up your alley.

This is amazing that you would take the time to remaster your older videos like this. Also, I was wondering \are you planning on reuploading other videos that aren't on the channel anymore like the Masterminds video? I remember you having it on Bitchute but I can't seem to find it anywhere on that site.

I respect the hell out of your dedication to deliver the best possible content you can provide to your fans. Wishing you even more success!

I’d love to have a fancy purple name in the credits. I look forward to every upload and seeing new videos always makes my day a little better. Thanks for all your hard work!

Nice Civvie, here's to at least another three years of great fps games and raw dogshit <3

Michal -milczyciel- Holdynski

I think I've watched Blood 2 videos like 3 times since I discovered and subscribed to your channel on 30 Dec 2018. All I know for sure is that you made this miserable part of year so much better and that I've instantly subscribed and binge watched all the videos you've had uploaded by that time (some of them must have been taken down if my memory isn't playing tricks on me). It makes me genuinely simile (which isn't a common thing with a grump fuck like me), when I see how a quality content guy like you is getting recognition he deserves. Here's one to you: I Hope that creating those great bits will keep bringing you just as much, if not even more satisfaction and fun that it brings to us, the audience and wish you all the best for years to come (yeah, that part is selfish on my behalf xD). You are a legend mate!

Kurt Hectic

Nice remaster, a classic.

Tripp Andre

Thanks Civvie. I'm finding that you're increasingly driving my games slate - I'm working through the Duke 3D expansions right now and I wouldn't be doing that if there wasn't a video. I've never played Blood 1, I need to put it on my list.

nova++

Ah, this feels so much better with Modern Refined Civvie and not Teenager-Trying-To-Buy-Beer Civvie. Ramsey showing up during the fast forward section still absolutely slays me every time

nova++

oh jesus christ I didn't even notice the subway train at 40:03 just... zooming back to its start point for when the animation loops... every time I watch I see something confounding and terrifying and inexplicable

Whenever you upload a video, the impending doom of the world slowly crumbling around me fades to the back of my mind for a little bit, and I forgot how fucked the world is. So thank you Civvie-11. Genuinely thank you.

Very excited for a dive into the boring slog that is Quake 2, AKA "What the fourth dimensional math algorithm incarnate known as John Carmack thinks us pitiable humans want from a video game."

Anonymous

I get that you edited your reaction faces out because it doesn't jive with how you run the show now but omg your face when Gabriel/Gabriela showed up as a floating minigun always cracked me up.

Anonymous

Your skills are clearly improving. It pleases me to have found you as early in your time on YouTube as I did, and it pleases me more to know that I had some small part in helping you continue. Thank you for what you do, Civvie. I appreciate it.

Marc Thomas

I agree with Adam. It's great to see you grow and become more talented. Keep it going!

Walt_Man

You re-voiced the whole thing! That's not RAW, it's cooked. XD
